so far I've aggro'd every damn zombie, died 4 times and not found a thing lol...and that's even crouching everywhere grrrrr. It's tough in the dark.

Don't worry, better start than me! Me and my friend had never played it before, joined server at night time while it was raining and thunder. Spent ages running around in the dark being scared the crap out of by a cow/sheep and then hiding in a building (later found out to be Komarovo) until I accidentally axe'd him while trying to give him the axe.... he bled to death cause we didn't know how to bandage.

First time I played I aggro'd 1 zombie and just kept running on the road till someone sniped me, zombie freaked me out lol.

Now it's easy to lose them, run through bushes/tree's to lose line of sight, run through houses/warehouses (they can not run inside)

Fire stations and military tents will have better loot but attract more players. The fire station is the grey building with 2 big red front doors and a 3 story tower attached.

General stores will normally have basic supplies such as food, drink, bandages and even sometimes a handgun/winchester.

Aw man, how I wish I could experience those first couple of months again. Especially the first couple of weeks. Still say to this day that it was probably the best online gaming experience I have had for years. Shame to say it went to cack when it became a deathmatch..

hmmmm this is fun dying all the time lol.

How on earth are you meant to get anywhere without agro'ing the zombies? I've read guides about crouching everywhere, but I'm still getting chased. I have no weapon so I can't fight off any of them so I end just running and agro'ing a load more. This is tough but very awesome. Oh, and other players think it's fair game to shoot me even though I'm not carrying anything, frustrating times.

This, in fact I still remember playing on your old DayZ server lol

Kinda the reason I stopped playing mostly 95% its shoot first, shoot second, ask questions shoot them again kinda thing. No incentive to be friendly and fact 90% of people are just Please fully star out all swear words!

Some of the best times on that server.. I can remember speeding to get home from work to try and catch the 5pm restart so I could get on my own friggin server :)

Number 2 in the world at the peak time of Dayz players, until my host screwed up a patch and virtually killed the server within a week... :(

There was some special moments during the early DayZ days, as MarkeR says probably the finest online game to date, it was simply amazing. I had a 40 day old character with not a single murder and me and about 15 {SAS} chaps just went bush up north on the Beer Drinkers. We "lived" up there in a roaming friendly pack, some nights doing nothing but drinking in RL and chatting on TS in our pitch black rooms round a virtual camp fire.

That is exactly what made this game so special in the early dayz (pun intended) :). We could walk for hours, days even and not meet one person but for some reason it was an amazing experience because you never knew what was about to happen. Also, the adrenaline that pumped when you saw your first player in yonks was phenomenal, I would be sitting after a firefight or even taking a shot at someone and my hands would be shaking with it.

Always remember one of the first nights playing, I was trying to run along in the pitch black below the power lines from Elektro to cherno way with agang of Zs chasing me, virtually screaming into the mic for melbo and tootall to save me as they were waiting at the end of the lines..

Some of the early-days moments from DayZ will not be matched by any other game in my opinion, just the sheer awesomeness of the environment and atmosphere seemed (and still does...) unmatched by anything else.

I'm hoping that Standalone can bring back some of those memories, but I'm not holding my breath!

Exactly, it was just unique in a way I dont think a game ever can be again. I was as much a social experiment as it was a game and like you said you were genuinely mindful of what you did and cared for your mates. Without exception no one who played right there at the start will ever forget their first airport run, supply trip into town or first night. Hahaha . Remember being north west one night, I had logged there the night before and was waiting for a clan buddy Tudj to meet me there and I saw this guy just running towards me. It wasnt tudj and I had no idea what I should do so I just proned and he ran about 10m to the left of me.

Another time time out west we were on a recon so were guilled up when we saw this poor chap dragging himself accross a field, I had morphine so I broke cover and trotted over to him and fixed him up, he was staggered that A. There was anyone there and B. That they helped him. He says to "how annoyed would you be if I murdered you" and I said to him "oh I dont think you will, im pretty safe. Have a look over to the east" as 10 suited mates stood up and started saluting at him lol.

My cousins are interested in playing this. I've been trying to find a video which best sums up dayz?

any suggestions?

A video of you fapping over pictures of Dean Hall is the most appropriate thing I can think of. That about sums DayZ up.
