** NEW SAMSUNG 750D & 950D True 120Hz LED Monitors - PRE-ORDER! **

Figured. Just that am hesitant about active shutter technology, and would be worried about forking out for this only to find it gives me headaches.

Add to that concerns over the reflections, the fact that they don't sit completely straight up (which if big, big concern).

Was thinking of getting the LG passive, and two LG IPS monitors for side and going eyefinity, with the option of using the 3D LG for £d when I felt like it.

Too many decisions and things to consider :(

If you are purley interested in 3D (not 120Hz 2D gameplay) then the LG may be something to consider. The major problem with this technology is that it works best from beyond normal sitting distance for a PC monitor. Really implementing this on LG monitors was just an after-thought, in my opinion, as the technology is only really suitable for TV viewing. So headaches are actually more likely with the passive technology on a monitor. Since you have a Radeon 5850 and are worried about reflections why don't you go for the S27A750? You would save some money (your GPU has a DisplayPort), wouldn't have to worry about things 'not being straight' (although this issue affects a minority of '950s) and the Ultra Clear Panel screen surface could be slightly stronger and better at reducing reflections (to be confirmed ;)). Unless you'd have a window facing the screen of the monitor I wouldn't be too concerned with reflections. I only found side windows problematic on the 950 when lots of light was streaming in - creating conditions which are uncomfortable for viewing content on any monitor, regardless of screen surface.

Well, I do sit with a window just left and slightly back of me, through which a great deal of light strems through, and yes, even affects my current E2710HDS, hence the concern.

I guess I could wait, but I wanted something to play with this weekend. Though I have to say the whole issue of deciding between 3D and Eyefinity is now giving me a migraine. Honestly don't know which I would find more fun/useful.

Have toyed with 3D using anaglyph, and like the effect, though not played with it for very long, so not sure how long term usage will make me feel.

As for 120Hz.... not tried so not sure what this is going to do for me.

Was considering a GPU upgrade at same time, but to get a decent performance boost, would likely need to go for an Nvidia card (gtx 570 maybe), but they have issues running 120Hz (60Hz per eye) with these monitors, don't they?

Would there be a performance hit running 3D on this?

E.g. if I get 120 FPS in stalker, can I expect to be hitting 60 fps with 3D enabled?

And do you need to be running close to 120 fps for 3D to be effective? Does running lower cause any kind of issues such as flickering, etc?

Got my finger hovering over the order button, but really need to know about GPU considerations.

I'd like a new GPU but will avoid if necessary, but should I stick with 5850, or plump for either GTX 480 or 6950?

Am quite keen on the GTX 480 due to better performance (don't care about power draw), but i believe Nvidia cards have issues with this monitor, so would I be better off sticking with ATI?

If ATI better, would there be any point in going 6950?

With any active shutter solution there is a performance hit because you will effectively be seeing half as many frames per second in each eye. Your GPU pumping out 120fps would be optimal because it gives you a 'nice' framerate of 60fps per eye but the experience is very good at lower frame rates as well (well - not too low). The S27A750D would require DisplayPort for the 120Hz refresh rate as HDMI only has sufficient bandwidth for 60Hz, yes. This would limit your GPU options but if I was in your position (I have a 5850 myself) I wouldn't consider upgrading until the next generation of GPUs are out. The Nvidia lot may well come with DisplayPort as this is an emerging standard and I'm almost certain the AMD ones will.

Was going to order, but just missed dedline. So gives me more time to reconsider :(

I am sure t can be hard to define, but (apart from 3d) what does 120Hz give. When using 60Hz monitors, I try to imagine what sort of input lag or sluggishness may be addressed, and just can't quite picture it.

This sound like I might not notice or care about the 120Hz? Is it something that's only noticeable on fast paced games? BC2 is about as fast paced as I get. Don't like twitch shooters.

It's so difficult to gauge these things without having tried them. Like Eyefinity. I keep wondering, would a game like Oblivion look better in 3D, or with the immense field of view that eyefinity affords.
