** NEW SAMSUNG 750D & 950D True 120Hz LED Monitors - PRE-ORDER! **

Got mine today...

OMFG, totally blown away with it. I was expecting a drop in quality from my Dell 2407 which has a decent WPA panel I think.

But this thing is amazing. I bought it for the 120hz 2d and it has blown my mind how smooth the game play is.

I had a quick go with 3d on Battlefield using the Tridef software as per the manual and it looked really good.

However I am a bit confused with 3D for movies. I have tried running the 3D setting on the monitor and then playing Avitar 1080P but the 3D effect is pretty non existent. Am I doing something wrong there??#

Other than that it is awesome.

Its a bit glary and with blacks its like a mirror but I think I can learn to live with that

The built-in conversion whih you would be using for films gives a very weak depth effect. It works better in some titles and scenes than others - you aren't doing anything wrong don't worry. Glad you notice the smoothness, but that doesn't surprise me since you came from a PVA ;).

Thanks for clearing that up.

Yep the movie 3D is disappointing using the monitors in built conversion. I have downloaded the SyncMaster 3D Game Launcher (TriDef 3D) 3.3.3 from the Tridef site but should I not have got a version free of the TriDef 3D full software for the movies?

OMG this monitor (S27A750D) is amazing! Pretty damn huge haha hard to get used to but the picture is amazing. No dead pixels, 120hz works perfect (obviously be sure to use DisplayPort - cable came included), had a quick look at the 2D->3D conversion and seems good but will play around with 3D properly another time.

The monitor seems very well calibrated almost right out the box although very bright at first but soon sorted that out. Played some Bad Company 2 on this along with some CS (1.6 and source) and just wow...

Might have to get CrossfireX sooner than expected so I can max this out all the time (120fps at 1080p) especially for BF3, shame cant buy another 5870 easily anymore so will wait til next gen of AMD cards I think

Yop
Don't worry about that crossfire Dan,tridef software do not support crossfire for the moment.
But a lot of people want to have this feature so maybe time can help.
We're now close to the release of the new AMD cards and i think Tridef will not bring support of crossfire until ,at least ,the arrival of this new hardware.

Looking to get a S23A750D 23". Current card is a asus 6950. Want to game at 120hz. Output of card is DVI-I ,DVI-D and 2 x mini dp. I imagine i will need an adapter but i'm unsure which. Mini dp > dp or DVI >dp.
Any advice or recomendations?
Thanks

simon

Don't blame you for missing it but this has been covered previoiusly. There is no such thing as a DVI to DisplayPort adaptor. Your GPU should have come with a mini DP to DP adaptor but some manufacturers are stingy and don't include this. You can buy an adaptor or a mini DP to DP cable (both will work just as well) for not a lot. Look out for companies such as StarTech who have some decent ones on some very large etailer websites.

Been playing with my new S23A750D for a few days, and absolutely love it so far. Input lag feels to be below any TN panel I've used and has had no effect on my ability in osu or twitch fps games compared to the trinitron CRT it replaced.

The glossy finish is just right - just like a CRT rather than a typical overly glossy LCD. The perfect compromise.

3D is pretty good, though the built in 3d processing gives a fairly underwhelming effect. Software depth setting more than makes up for this though and I can't fault the 3D in terms of ghosting etc.

Colours are really good, pretty much IPS in quality (but not accuracy of course)

My only complaint is the monitor is too bright - even at 0 brightness and 0 contrast (gamma mode 3, colour warm 1, magic stuff off) it is still too bright for my eyes in 2D mode, so I've been forced to reduce it in my graphics driver settings.

Bottom line is this is definitely the best CRT replacement LCD on the market where gaming is the primary concern.

Glad you like it - but sorry to hear about the brightness issues. If it is similar to the 27 inch model it shouldn't really be too bright at a brightness setting of zero as it reaches under 80 cd/m2 which is dim. Having said that the contrast and colour vibrancy can still make it appear quite bright even at that setting. I would advise upping the brightness and contrast and playing around with the Magic Angle settings to see if you can get it more comfortable. In particular the 'Group View' and 'Side Mode' may help but I'm not really sure how that will work on the S23.

I think it will. Samsung has started to 'surge' it out to retailers. There isn't a constant flow at the moment which is a shame but other retailers have had limited stocks of these this month. I expect OcUK's stock to arrive shortly. Furthermore they have some in their Euro labs which is a good sign - expect some more reviews on this one shortly.

Thanks PCM2, have only just began looking at monitors and ended up abit befuddled. That said i do like the specifications of the 23750d and think a decent monitor would be the most sensible upgrade for me at the moment. Currently have a samsung 2243bw.

Found these (StarTech), if i decide to purchase the 23750d i will give some feedback.
Cheers,
simon

Yes and I'd estimate about 1.5m

Thanks!! 1.5m is a bit short tbh, might have to buy a longer one.

On another thread here people were mentioning about new models coming out, but since these Samsung models have only just been released am I right in thinking that their will be nothing better for 6 months or more?

Which new models? You mean the S23A700D? It should be released some time this year with any luck, but knowing how Samsung's releases this year have done don't hold your breath. It shouldn't be 'better' than the S23A750D but it should be cheaper, have a more conventional design and includes a DVI port. They will most likely do a more thorough refresh mid way through next year at the earliest but they won't be 'better'. Unless they have managed to improve their PLS technology so it has god-like responsiveness and excellent contrast. ;)

Well had it a few days now and getting used to it.

I have it set up how I like it and it really is a sweet monitor.

I really would like to read some indepth reviews from people who know more than me about the different types of panels to see how it compares to IPS because I have never seen such a good looking TN panel as this.

Working on it. Problem is I've got my hands a bit full with other things so it's going a bit more slowly than I would like. :p I have used a huge number of TN panel monitors, IPS panel monitors and others and I rank the S27A750D very highly for its image in games and movies. The rich and vibrant clarity of the colours is something I have not seen on any other TN panel monitor - the HP 2511x comes kind of close but still lacks a certain depth and variety in practice. The image was pretty shoddy in places using out of the box settings but once properly set up is much more akin to the Apple Cinema Display than your 'average' TN panel monitor, if there is such a beast. Obviously the colour consistency isn't up to IPS standards but even this is much better than usual for a TN panel of this size. Actually it is better than most 24" TN panel monitors in this regard and that is very unusual. Our review unit also has impressive panel uniformity which is a bonus. So yeah having just used a U2312HM and U2412M (whilst using a high-grade CRT at the moment as well) I am quite surprised by how good the colour experience is on this one.
