New Star Trek series - 2017

You mean just the special effects :D

We're on season 4 ffs. In any other of the series we'd have formed a bond with the crew by now.

Can you name any of the standout episodes?

Datalore
Yesterday's Enterprise
Best of both worlds

Ds9 way of the warrior

Voyager had futures end by season 4 which I thought was great
Pretty much yes lol I can't stand when they preach at you.

I can vaguely recall one episode where they harked back to the original pilot. I only remember it because they used it to tug on those remember berries but the episode itself, I can't remember at all and don't think it was very good. But I did like the bit where they switched between the two, old and new.

Nothing makes any sense in this star trek universe. In Trek of old, there was technology which existed because of an understanding of physics. Like the idea of a warp of space to travel faster than light, or they could use reactions between matter and anti-matter to create energy. Something based in some sort of theoretical science. The idea of Discovery however, uses a magical fungus to travel. Picard uses magical devices which can reconstruct entire people and dialogue from some kind and latent magical particles.

My position on aggressive pandering is that I find it oddly humorous how obtuse it can be, it's quite satirical honestly because I imagine quite a lot of people that it's supposed to be aimed at would much prefer if it was more subtle and that the producers focused on the quality of the product instead.

A guilty pleasure I suppose.

The president giving micky that ur not a good captain speech is what many of us wanted to to say for some time. That was the best bit. Then her going in a mood from it lol priceless. I hope she keeps the red shirt and dies in next ep lol. Bring someone on that acts mature and doesnt get emotional and fks stuff up tho somehow gets through all the time. PLEASE!!!

can't help but think there more to this story that what we being told. there has been far bigger social media campaigns to get show on/saved and got no response. yet they did this. yet from my social media channels the biggest response was " so they not showing it here, no big loose as it wasn't that good, I'll find something else to watch"

We gave up on this after watching the first episode of last season. It just is not Star Trek for us unfortunately.

Will give the new Star Trek show being made with Captain Pike a go though, that cast seemed much better.

might help if they didn't look like they should be working at walmart or somehwere

come on these are like some of the finest members of starfleet? I know it was a science vessel but it's basically a bunch of kids and misfits

wouldn't it have one of the finest and most experienced crews because of the spore drive crap?

The smuggler guy is pretty well cast but his character is poorly written he's basically a simp, also I don't care about his home planet, we barely ever saw it, I'm not attached to it or anything else int he show other than"star trek" being in the name

It's sad because it will be used as a "viewers don't want scifi" and no companies will want to make scifi.

we get so less as it is involving space

with this cast is should be called "star fleet cadets lost in space"

I'm about ready to give up on this

Just getting silly with all the crying and mental health issues. It's like whatever is going on in the media, they have to bring it into the story somehow.

You heartless *******. How can you emotionally connect with characters unless they tell you how hard everything is for them and cry incessantly. People today.

Nick Meyer (he of "Seven Percent Solution" and various Trek films fame) paraphrased the Orson Scott Card claim that all works are a product of their time in his commentary for the Wrath of Khan DVD release. And he's absolutely right IMO - which is why STD started out grim and gritty early on (fitting, I suppose, for 2017 America) and has become more of a comment on people finding their place in the world as time goes on (matching the shift that has taken place during and post Trumplethinskin's presidency).

Speaking as a leftie liberal commie pinko the 'wokeness' (spit it like you just ate a marzipan-coated anchovy!) is the least of the horrific problems with the show for me. The wildly overinflated stakes, the resolute awfulness of the dialogue, the inability to not telegraph a plot twist, the pacing issues, the continuity issues with the rest of Trek, the continuity issues internally...

Least b5 is due out next year, its a reboot but hopefully decent as same writer/creator as before so hopefully not full of trans/blacks/gays and every other minority on display to try to include everyone when sometimes its not really needed except to satisfy the small vocals like that mp said not long ago. If shows want all that why cant they create new ip and be fresh about it instead of messing with tradition in past shows with established casting trends from way back.

Next well have talking plants as crew since going green is all the rage. Maybe groot from guardians will get his own movie/tv show lol.

I dont discriminate i just wish stuff wasnt forced because its the new trend of what studios want not the people want.

I have hope of that pike show tho as we know the general cast and what they should be from The Cage. If they dont inject the stuff from discovery in and try to go back to normal trek i.e episodic content with old trek writers from the past it could be a big hit imo.

Personally i want shatner back, he would still do a great job and hasnt aged too bad vs picard imo.

I was brought up in the 80s, so read the boy who cried wolf

yea those aren't a sign of our times.

I wonder if the people who end up working on science fiction projects even like or watch science fiction stuff.

also everyone wants to put their own mark on everything even if it means doing stuff they know the fans won't want..

Ridley scott went from making TV adverts to basically jumping straight into science fiction films after watching star wars though.. according to his IMDB bio

The Kardashian/bieber generation are probably the ones making everything these days? might explain a lot
