New summer transfer thread

Didn't you have upwards of 500 posts in there?

Really wierd the way it's just disappeared like this. I can't see why it would have been deleted by a mod, as far as I could tell there was nothing rule breaking about it. Unless it was deleted unintentionally?

fantastic. heinz needs to stay now though as we will be lacking decent left cover (not that ol peanut head provides much anyway). who would buy him? newcastle? lyon?

Eh, you read that article? Makes no sense to me. Dropped for the FA cup final? Silvestre was injured and hadn't played so how could he be "dropped". Who's making this stuff up?

Heinze is going, so forget any chance of him being in the squad next season. His loyalty does not lie with us so he can go jump of a bridge. I'm sure Ferguson feels the same and will tell him as much tomorrow when they have their first face to face meeting since all this talk of going to Liverpool surfaced. There is no going back with Ferguson, Heinze has made it perfectly clear what his intentions are, Ferguson has blocked the move to Anfield. I expect Ferguson to outline Heinze's options, 1. Take a move to Italy, Spain, France or Germany. 2. Stay and remain on the bench/rot in the reserves for the remainder of his contract.

I thought Heinze was a battler, but he has proven to be otherwise in seeking a move away from the club instead of staying and fighting for a first team place. He does not warrant a first team place anymore, neither does Evra, but let them both battle it out on the training ground through sweat and tears. But Heinze wants to forgo this option and take the easy route out of the club. And into what I see as extremely similiar circumstances at Anfield. Riise being the more attack minded left back, and Heinze fighting it out with him for a place in the first team.

That and fighting for a cb spot too.

We should know a bit more about the saga next week; the EPL have confirmed that they will be arbitrating the matter, but im sure there will be an appeal by whoever loses the case (definantly from Utd anyway).

Also do you think rotting in the reserves is a realistic option? Ive asked this before but would the Glazers be happy paying somebody £40k a week for 2 years and then going for free when they could get £7m for him?

I still don't see any sort of a deal between the clubs going through, we have his contract and the two remaining years of it to fall back on. And to me that supercedes any letter that has been sent to Heinze's agents stating that he can leave for x value. Man Utd have the right to change their mind. Plus David Gill said last week that he communicated to Heinze's agents verbally over the phone that no transfer would be made with Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea and his agent agreed to it. And this was before Liverpool involved their lawyers, and after Liverpool's initial bid was turned down. So the agent clearly knew we weren't going to sell to Liverpool. And it's possible somewhere along the lines, Heinze's agent went to Liverpool regardless in an effort to revive their attention with this letter and it did. And if that's what happened, we might even have some sort of a case against his agent for doing that. I really don't know. It's still very hazy but like you said a lot more will be revealed this coming week.

It's more of a threat, but yeah more expensive players and players on higher wages will be sitting on the bench, I see no reason why Heinze can't be one of them.

Seems that Hoefkens is deffinatly due to sign for West Brom from us (Stoke). Damn good signing for them, and it leaves us even further in the mire, especially now that Fortune has rejected us from Charlton.

Going to be a long season me thinks

i'd prefer to sell heinze to be honest. i could see his value declining a good 3million over the course of the next year.

7million gets us a good keeper. A good right back (we're fine in left back probably right back too actually but someone who could actually take over from gaz in a few years.) or a good 4th choice forward.

don't see him going to liverpool still but at the end of the day he wouldn't improve them hugely. it wouldn't be like giving them Ronaldo... oh hang on bad example they've already got pennant. rooney then... oh no they've already got crouch. damn it.

I was reading something in the times a while back and according to some sports lawyer; the case rests on the wording of the letter and depending on the wording it can be classed as a legally binding agreement and would then supercede his contract with Utd or become part of his contract.

If this letter has no legal standing then why have the letter in the first place? Why couldn't they just have a phone call?

It also seems very naive of Utd not to exclude Liverpool etc in any letter in the first place and im sure they won't make the same mistake again.

Also it seems as if Liverpool haven't involved there lawyers (well sort of), the disagreement was between Utd and Heinze and it just so happens that Heinze has employed the lawyers that usually represent Liverpool (though are not 'Liverpool's lawyers').

Yes but those more expensive players on bigger wages will be fighting for a place where as it looks as if Heinze has no future at Utd and like you've said before, higher profile players have crossed Fergie and they've all ended up out of the door (though never to a rival).

Govou would be interesting, heard a lot about him a couple of years back but i haven't heard him mentioned for a couple of seasons, was pushing into the france squad back then.

I heard it was Appiah. Would make sense that he would be tapped up with the Tuncay move.

He's a striker who is deployed comfortably on the Right-Wing.

Linoge, after your comments about Ronaldo leaving last summer I thought you'd be a bit less forward in your views about Heinze ;).
