New summer transfer thread

Giggs gets so much grief from us because he warrants it. A player of his experience and skill should not be constantly giving the ball away. I can understand players losing pace as they get older, even a little hair, but passing the ball should always be there. Keeping possession gives you more chance of winning a game, not always a guarantee but if you've got the ball for longer it means your opponents don't have as much time attacking you. Scholes looks out of sorts with both Carrick and Hargreaves, if push came to shove, I'd drop Carrick to revert to a 4-4-2. but that's not going to happen until Ronaldo and Rooney are back.

Carrick was playing better than Scholes yesterday for sure (admittedly Scholes was out of position from normal)

I personally think we should have Carrick and Hargreaves training a lot together and have them lined up just infront of Vidic and Rio, then have Rooney Scholes and Ronny a little ahead with Tevez out front (with all four constantly switching) yeah I know it leaves out Giggs, but you can drop him into Scholes's postion as they both cant play all games (Sunderland would have been a great game for this system IF........)

I think that format above will be used extensively through the season, we have to get used to it as 4-4-2 just doesnt work away from home in Europe

Yes its a good arguement that the team has enough skill to be able to play many formations - but it just never seems to work out that way imo

Martins stormed down tunnel after being subbed, is he gonna leave ? can't be ahppy being played out wide either

Yea he was a decent player but it was looking like being a pretty expensive deal, iirc Everton were going to pay £6-8m to Benfica for 50% of him with the other 50% being owned by some businessman (like MSI).

Fernandes has gone to Valencia. Shame for Everton as he's a real talent.

I found it shocking that he was a guest at Goodison at a recent game (I think it was Saturday) - which to me shows he has practically signed - only to go and sign for another club the next day

Thats not on at any point - let alone just as the window closes

You can say that about the whole squad - or at least those that have played.
Cant really blame just those two
I'm not levelling it at them after just this season, I'm judging on what we saw last season. Scholes had a brilliant start to last season, but at around February he switched off and was carried by Carrick.

Giggs last season was apalling almost consistently every game. I could probably count the top quality games he had on one hand. Giggs was carried by everyone around him, notably Ronaldo who consistently came over to help Giggs out of trouble.

He was once a great player, now he's nothing more than average.

There's definitely been some contact between Chelsea and Ronaldinho's agents as the rumours have made Blues News on CTV and Beguiristain has come out with the usual 'we don't want to sell him and he's our player' statements to clear Barca from wanting to sell him.
I doubt it will and hope it won't happen as we could spend that sort of money much better even if the cost is reduced by us selling Robben, throwing in Lamps in the deal or letting Shevchenko and Ballack go on loan somewhere.
A great player of course, just not what Chelsea need now:)

Very interesting interview on TalkSport this afternoon with a highly respected Journo. Covers La Liga for Talk Sport and some other news agencies. One that you can usually rely on for a story with a bit of substance rather than the claptrap spouted by 9/10ths of Fleet Street

In a nutshell

  • Abrahmovic had meeting this weekend with Ronaldhinos Agent with specific view of signing him
  • Transfer is highly unlikely but not impossible
  • The (not so) Special One is not interested in signing him
  • Abrahmovic will go over his head if needs be
  • Barca are happy to keep hold of him (Publicly)
  • Barca feel he has run course at the Camp Nou. Still a world class player but is getting stale. Rijkaard is struggling to fit all 4 in the same team(Privately)

I'd agree with him as it stinks of the Shevchenko signing if you ask me.
Bruce Buck was saying the other day that we've learnt from being mugged in past deals, if we go ahead with this one we've (RA has) learnt nowt:)
