New top gear lineup..

Sounds like a good line up to me, and if it does flop, it will help BBC save the massive amounts of money they want.

Thing is, the old one brought in a lot of cash, was the BBC's biggest world-wide seller. I can't see how a new serious car show can do that, and I can't see how they can match the old one's car-based shenanigans comedy trio. The BBC killed that golden goose.

With this lineup, it will be an interesting and enjoyable show for car enthusiasts.

And therefore last one season before being cancelled.

Yep it's going to be a total trainwreck regardless of who's on it and will be cancelled fairly quickly.

If the BBC are trying so hard to save money maybe they should try just accepting that Top Gear is over rather than spending a fortune trying to force lightning to strike twice.

Sabine was on top gear a few times. Chris Harris appeared on fifth gear a few times. I don't think it is that fair. But I don't like main stream media.:p

Sabine was on Top Gear about twice and not once in the last 10 years.

Chris Harris used to write years ago for a specialist interest magazine and then did some YouTube stuff.

Given the viewing figures Top Gear used to pull in and how general the audience was, these people are relatively little known. Not little known, but relatively little known. We all know who they are, but that isn't the point. It's the same as James May - before he appeared on TG in 2003 he was 'relatively little known' as well despite the fact he was a previous Top Gear presenter!

Also stop using the term 'main stream media' it makes you sound like a conspiracy theorist :p

Id say both of them are virtually unknown, relatively is being kind if anything :p. I am really quite into cars yet only know who Chris Harris is through this forum. I've watched all of about one of his YouTube videos as I don't ever really visit YouTube unless linked from here.

Ask anyone irl who Chris (H) or Sabine are and I'd be massively surprised if they'd heard of either of them.

Okay okay.... Old world paper based media.. Better? :p

I just think they forget that they are things like YouTube and online media which I presume they feel is only for kids or something, as CH is not exactly unknown online.

I just find it ironic at a newspaper doesn't realise there is more to media these days than just people who appear on tv...

I don't think it says that at all. In terms of the general population, these two people are relatively unknown. They are not unknown to the Telegraph, who I am sure are familiar with the concept of YouTube.

Nothing in that articles suggests that the Telegraph doesn't realise there is more to media than people on TV.

I just found it a little of a weird sentence that's all but I accept that not everyone is a motor enthusiast that watches top gear.

The article to me seem to flavour the opinion a little that it was a strange choice. But that's how I interpreted it. Articles always are subjective to peoples interpretation.

I don't disagree with anything you say I just find that sort of reporting a bit one sided. Happy to agree to disagree on that. :)

I think whether it's a strange choice or not depends on what you think Top Gear should be.

If you think it's a motoring magazine show for people interested in cars it's absolutely not a strange choice - it's a logical choice. If you think it's a car based family entertainment show for general viewing then it probably is a strange choice.

We've now had two types of Top Gear. A motoring magazine show that died a death and a family entertainment show based on cars that went on to be one of the worlds biggest television shows....

You're right. I personally found it to be an entertainment show, it will now a motoring show.

Perhaps this is recognition by the BBC that they cannot reproduce what they had without Clarkson et al. So rather than attempting to compete with them, they've gone a different way.

We all know that Amazon will draw massive amount's of fans in due to the trio being there doing their stuff.

No way BBC could compete with that now, Top gear will be more like 5th I feel, with some great driving and nice car's but less of the joke's and prating about we've been used to.

It'll be interesting to see what happens. :)

I am glad the show is getting refreshed. The Clarkson hammond crap died years ago for me. Hopefully it turns out good.
