It is quite funny but I don't think it's unheard of - I know I often stop talking whilst driving and can't keep a constant stream of dialogue :p

Most of my passengers insist on talking to me at a busy/ complicated roundabout or junction, then go silent on the long straight empty roads :p

In fairness, my passengers don't drive, so probably aren't aware it's an issue.

I think people are not giving it a chance. You put a group of people together and they can work. Put Hammond on his own on a TV program before Top Gear and no one would have looked twice, same with May. Put them together with Clarkson and for many it worked. Same can happen again if what people stop expecting is the same personalities and antics. It will be different and just because the people as individuals are not the same, doesn't mean it wont work. All you can say is it will be different at this stage, the rest is pure conjecture.

Meh May and Hamster are an ok addition, but for me it's all about Clarkson, he is a big child, like me, no political correctness, slanting the eco and anti car lobby, I can relate to him and his jokes.

I would say Hammond is the weakest link but I could quite easily watch anything May has ever put out.

Disagree there

I'd seen Richard Hammond on satellite TV on men & motors. He was very likeable even on his own pre top gear

May is actually brilliant despite the image of being boring he is actually the most interesting of the 3 and a lot of people love him due to being self deprecating, etc. while probably not quite reaching TG level IMO he'd have still been very successful in his own right whereas IMO Hammond has been a bit more carried by the TG vehicle - while a good presenter much more destined for ordinary than the other 2.

Personally can't stand Chris Evans so not looking forward to this at all. I was hoping they would do something unexpected like make Jodie Kidd the anchor because, hey, at least if she's terrible she's still gorgeous to look at.

So the latest attack on chris evans is that he's a bit of a wimp for throwing up after being driven round laguna seca by Sabine Shcmitz.

Not sure that jeremy was any better after doing his back in at suzuka in the GTR (although that may have been part of the script to illustrate a point to viewers about how fast it was), but its obvious things aren't going as well as they could be for Chris given all the negative stories coming out.

Would like to see anyone else doing any better, don't get all the harsh criticism of him atm.

That was undoubtedly for show/entertainment though!

For some strange reason I feel Top Gear will receive greater viewings than JC's new show. Purely because JC and co chose Amazon. Had they gone with Netflix I think they would've won hands down.... Anyway, time will tell.

IIRC JC made himself sick driving around the TG track. The Prodrive car, I think.

It looks like this will be a car show again. Thing is though nobody can review cars as good as Clarkson.

Chris Harris is good but has a completely different style to Clarkson.

I'm just glad as a petrol head that we should get good car segments again.

I'm on the fence with Chris Harris - has latest few videos have been pretty decent and suspiciously top gear style I think with a bit of work and especially the right co-host to play off (not so relevant to car review segments but might improve his overall approach) he could work out well (in terms of car segments).

Sadly though it will probably end up more like https://youtu.be/EgKshqhqNQE?t=469
