New World MMO

No one knows, bellular did a video recently where they extrapolated various participation numbers to have a guess (raiding, m+, level cap characters) and he put it at around 1.4 mill. Who knows, as long as the money keeps rolling in from microtransactions do actiblizz care about sub numbers? Probably not.
of course, they do more subs mean more people buying the store mount ;)

Same old same old, people rush through to the end in a new MMO do whatever little endgame is at endgame then complain they have nothing to do at endgame and shout loud and loud the game is rubbish and lacks content subs go downhill.... Cash shop opens and sells even more XP items more than normal and boom game is dead :)

was there something else people were supposed to do in this game other than level from 0-60 doing town quests?

there's literally nothing to do but gain levels.

Has any other MMO in history actually launched with as little content as this??

Its pretty much diablo in 3d , click spam to kill things for killing things is fun.

no ones being hard on the game it's just that basic and pointless, Grats on the people who managed 60.... I got bored at 30 then quit at 44 or so

That's also exactly what happens with non-MMO live sevice games. Not enough content, they're not ready for release either (Anthem, that Marvel disaster etc), but also you have everyone meta-ing everything, instead of enjoyng the experience with friends like MMO's used to be, everyone has to rush to end-game as efficiently as possible, but for what reason? in NW's case there isn't one.

They're rushing these games out, unfinished, buggy and short of content and then the players rin the game min-maxing and exploiting it to death. You don't see this much with FFXIV, but then you're looking at the Gold standard MMO, with endless content, and a very different and more diverse audience than you would get for a "grinder" like NW, or those Korean titles. So the type of MMO it is and its audience it attracts also makes success more difficult. Anyone with a brain looked at the flagship Faction Warfare PvP knew it would be a disaster, and that's partly because the people attracted to that mode are going to be hardcore, exploiters, and toxic AF.

NW needed years more development but devs will always choose the short-term cash-grab over the long-term success, they need to release games in a better state, but if they want a long-lasting MMO then they need to build one with right ingredients.

Can only echo others views on here regarding New World. It’s a great example of why and how PC gaming is going downhill. Far too many games are rushed and released early and the paying consumer ends up being a beta tester. It’s not just MMOs. MSFS released in August 2020 is also an example. The one positive I can take from New World is that the devs appear super keen to communicate but as we’ve seen recently talk is cheap and they need to deliver.

It’s because many here pressure them to release release release instead of being patient

Many here?

Any evidence for that?

And in any case, no, it's because they want the quick buck for the quarterlies, this is industry wide, devs/pubs will always trake the cash-grab over the long term earner.
Yeah no one is pressuring them from a consumer perspective. I’d happily wait patiently for something decent. It’s all commercial interests unfortunately.

Yeah that was back in August and the data they gathered was before the whole bad PR thing that's been ongoing since.

Indeed it's game development in general these days.

Amazon announce a new MMO the world applies pressure of when all to drum up cash. Investors in gaming need to start looking at 5-10 year return instead of 2 or 3.

Besides Amazon are not in gaming to make a good game they are in it for money simple as that.

Age of Conan? I think I got to level 52 (with an 80 cap?) and there were literally no quests to do...

I was around and experienced the "golden age" of MMOs, from 1997 to 2005 (UO, EQ1, AC1, DAOC, SWG, Year 1 of WoW) , those years had gaming experiences like no other that I have ever experienced since

I think I'd agree with you there. Loved those MMO's... For me particularly some amazing memories around UO, the first, and then DAoC and SWG too. Amazing times.

What year was Rift? That's perhaps my favourite. (Just looked it up, 2011)

AOC was a great game, such a shame the second expansion went full on grind mode and the players left in droves. Again due to lack of content. Infact Funcom MMOs were great games.

AoC and secret world were great on paper, but not so good in practise. Secret World could have been a fantastic mmo if it was done properly - still think the premise is something that better developers should look into.

you'd think for the first game they would at least want something good and finished.

Early access crap ruined pc gaming, almost every game is early access now they just don't tell you.

We are going to disagree about AOC :) spent a very very happy few years gaming with that game in a guild called Tainted Souls. All the Funcom MMOs were brilliant Anarchy Online was another great game as well it's still going and gets the odd update thrown at it now and then.

Secret world OMG the secret world to this day I don't know how it failed it was brilliant the settings the missions the story then you got to the end game and it was empty just one raid boss I think. It had so much potential then the rug got pulled. Such a shame.
