Newcastle part company with Hughton

Jol got fired didn't he? I think it's just Martin Jol to the job centre for now.

Apparently one of the Newcastle rags ran a poll of 1000 people as to who they'd want as the next manager. Pardew got 14.

Allegedly, whoever becomes our next manager will be given a 5 year contract but have little money to spend on new players

Why not just give a Hughton a decent contract, the fans like him, the players respect him and he did an outstanding job all things considered.

Well thats sometimes a problem, he was always second fiddle to a manager so would have been the go to guy for problems, he could be too friendly, and not enough of a hard line manager to really take the club forwards.

As for Pardew, he got fired with West Ham, but also took them to 9th or so the season before after getting them promoted didn't he. Zola was actually VERY good his first season, the second season was just basically every decent player being injured, he got fired, he did smeg all wrong.

Essentially theres two sides to every story. Plenty of people talking about Hodgson getting fired from Inter, but he did well, took them WAY up the league and was so respected and liked he was brought back as CARE TAKER manager where he did ok aswell, he wasn't fired a second time just not givent he job.

Pardew isn't who I'd choose, but Hughton had Newcastle playing like utter turd in quite a lot of games this season, any other season, to be honest, the wins against Villa, Arsenal, one two others just wouldn't have happened, and they'd be in the bottom 3 as is, and they are slowly but surely moving in that directly again. They have the 17th worst home record, that is not a sign of staying up, they've fluked some away wins they won't continue to fluke, and their home form wouldn't keep them up, especially as the team is getting worse as the season goes on.

It also isn't surprising to see a newly promoted team come up with a lot of confidence, form, get a good start, and still end up relegated, its happened so many times its not remotely a surprise.

Also, don't forget, Hughton had control of a lot of the same players in the same position 2 years ago, and couldn't get them to play well, playing rather like they are playing in the past 5 games.

Past 5 game form, Newcastle have the joint worst points tally, 2 points, out of 15, with 3 home games, 2 away. Fulham also only got 2 points, with 3 away games, two of which were against Chelsea and Arsenal, one of the home games was against City. So basically the two most horrific teams in the league and Fulham had 3 games against the top 4.

Newcastle's best games was at home getting a draw against Chelsea, who have been pathetic lately. I'd say that puts them as the single worst team, by a margin, over the past 5 games, and they are only 7 points off the bottom.

All seems a bit strange to me, I don't really know what the board were expecting this season if mid-table isn't good enough. If they'd been struggling badly and a few points adrift and the bottom, then maybe you'd need to change it, but I would have thought you'd give the fella 'til the end of the season bearing in mind their performances so far, which have not been outstanding, but again, I wouldn't expect them to be.

Going for Pardew just seems like a sideways move to me, plus he is probably the most abnoxious manager in football and I can't stand the guy.

I would argue it is a backwards step!

I feel very sorry for Chris Hughton, he really has been harshly treated and Alan Shearer certainly made his views clear, albeit a bit under the guise of other words.

I'm a sunderland Fan..and I still cannot believe Ashley will appoint Pardew...it will make no sense whatsoever

He must have something else lined up to surprise the fans with...he simply cannot do this surely..nobody can be this dumb?

I will not believe it until I see Pardew holding up magus scarf!

What did Shearer say?

He was asked on Radio 5 if he would be the next Newcastle manager to which he answered he would definately not be the next manager, but wouldn't rule out becoming manager in the future.

He was then asked about the decision and he criticised the board for their decision. They tried to draw him out a bit to get him to dish the dirt on the board, and although he didn't actually say it, you could deduce that he certainly did not want to be the manager with the current board in place at St James' Park.

Looks like an announcment is due at 2pm today from the club. No doubt stating that Pardew will be the new manager and they look forward to making him dance like a marionette :(

"Chris Hughton did a great job last season, guiding the club back to the Premier League, and he continued that good work this season. It is my aim to build on that now and take this club forward."
I'm sure Chris will be pleased with that praise.
