Newcastle takeover???

I'm not sure the takeover of a single club goes to a vote though? It doesn't affect the other teams directly.
The clubs are the League, the clubs decide what happens. If the clubs decide there's legitimate reason to have a vote then they will. There's no set procedure, it's as and when they decide. Even if there's not a formal vote, the final decision the League takes will be a result of the views of the clubs.

Not completely linked to this situation but it was interesting to read a while ago that although any major decision needs a 14 vote majority to pass, there are certain decisions that Liverpool and Utd have the power to veto.

Bigpig you realise that the clubs are the PL, right? And you might be surprised to hear but the clubs do vote on any major decisions the League takes, requiring 14 votes in favour for something to pass. Whether this decision ultimately goes down to a vote by the clubs remains to be seen and will depend on just how strong the objections are from certain clubs, however even if it were to, clubs that don't want the takeover to happen may vote in favour of the deal if they fear the legal action that will follow.
Yes I do but when has there ever been a vote on an owner?

Do you really think they are going to call an emergency meeting? It's would take a massive backlash from nearly all the club's to make a case.

Yes I 100% believe clubs are raising concerns but they will leave it at that.

Also there is still FFP to contend with.

There most certainly will be legal action from PIF and Mike. It's has cost both sides millions to get to this stage. (not including the deposit).

This deal will be accepted or failed purely on the owners test or stoped by the government. That's my opinion.

All signs comming from sources seem to think they will go through but who knows.

We are already into the 3rd week of the tests which should be the final stages we shouldn't have to much longer to wait.

I'm not sure what part of the League is the clubs you don't understand. Whether there is a formal vote or not, it will be the clubs that decide whether the takeover is accepted, not Richard Masters. His job is to get the best tv contracts and act as peacemaker when the various clubs are fighting over things.

To put it another way, it would be like MBS telling Yasir bin Othman that he's against the Newcastle takeover - if Yasir bin Othman went ahead with it then he'd have no head a week later. That would be the same outcome for Richard Masters if he attempted to approve the takeover if the PL clubs were against it.

No I'm not getting it.

So are you telling me if a potential new owner or director pass the the Ownership and directors test set out in the premiership handbook which the government made them improve that the clubs can still veto the deal??

Sounds like BS to me.

The rules and regulations have already been voted and approved by all 20 clubs

I can see you're not getting it. The Premier League clubs are the Premier League. The Premier League is a private company owned by the 20 clubs. They set the rules, they decide if those rules have been broke and they decide what, if any action is taken.

The rules are in place and as has been discussed in detail already, it's up to the Premier League (the clubs) to determine whether Newcastle's potential owners would breach those rules. The decision as to whether Newcastle's future owners pass the fit and proper owners/directors test (and if they don't, whether they will block the takeover) will be decided by the Premier League clubs, not Richard Masters. He will be there to gather opinions and legal advice and do all the admin in the background but the ultimate decision will be taken by the clubs.

edit: and answering your question about whether the clubs could block the deal even if no rules are broken, I suppose the answer is yes they could in theory however they obviously wouldn't do that as they'd face a huge legal battle. The point I've been making is that when you keep saying the Premier League will listen to the clubs complaints but the PL will make the decision, you're failing to understand that the clubs are the PL. The clubs will be telling Richard Masters whether they believe Newcastle's future owners are/aren't not fit and proper and instructing him to block or approve the deal.

very much doubt that clubs have a ruling say on ownership. Yes on major deals and rules but it would have to be an independent board investigating and ruling on the ownership test they also have to abide by the law and if they do have the power I very much doubt they will block it they were pretty much spilt and didn't want the ownership test getting harder when Southampton was getting a new owner.

I just leave it at that no more talk out of me about the law or ownership test or satailite pirates!!

A side note!!!!!
Martin Samuel: “No club has the right to reside among the elite but Newcastle have been in the doldrums for too long. It needs owners with the imagination to realise potential and maybe this new consortium will do that.” #nufc

Mike Ashley favourite journalist and his go to man.

After all the letters and clickbait articles yesterday morning there seems to be a mood in the air that this deal will indeed go through.

Why do you very much doubt it? You've acknowledged that they need to pass the fit and proper owners test - who do you think, within the PL, decides if they meet the criteria or not? The people working for the PL are ultimately employees of the clubs, the clubs are the owners and ultimate decision makes. Richard Masters and his team will be doing all the background checks and taking legal advice on behalf of the clubs and then relaying that information to them and trying to reach a consensus between the clubs on what action to take.

As for Martin Samuel's (he's moron like Richard Keys btw), that's his opinion on what should be the case, although technically speaking the PL (or FA/EFL if Newcastle were in a lower league) cannot stop the sale, they can only prevent them playing in the PL if the deal goes through, which is ultimately the same thing as nobody is spending £300m on a non league football club.

You need to remember there's a difference between whether the PL (the clubs) can block the deal, want to block the deal and whether they will block the deal. I've already said that the PL have always been cautious of getting into legal battles and that they're more likely to allow the deal, even if they do believe there's grounds to block it, for that very reason. You've been making sweeping statements about what the League can or can't do, what clubs can or can't do and the outcome of legal battles regarding beIN and Arabsat that have simply been factually incorrect.

And it's not clickbait to report that the PL's biggest overseas tv rights partner has contacted every PL club and urged them to block the deal nor to report that amnesty international have too. Whether you don't care about piracy or public beheadings if it means Newcastle get to spend £20m on Danny Rose is up to you but these are valid and newsworthy concerns.

Remember the part when Qatar basically bought the whole of FIFA to get the World Cup.

If you think they'll have no sway in anyone with a remote connection to Saudi Arabia having any influence in any footballing activities, especially in the 'biggest' league in the world then you're kidding yourself.

I thank you for all the information it's been very interesting reading.

You already have me looking at the league table for allies lol

I believe the deal won't be blocked. To much money to much hassle.

I'm so very much looking forward to a full on melt down by Keys if people are correct that this is already a done deal. We find out soon.

Afterward the whole of those bought in fifa were sacked, any sway they had is long gone

The state of some of our fans on Twitter acting as if the people protesting the takeover are doing it because it’s Newcastle.

Can’t we just buy the league without being self-absorbed *****.

The Saudi minister of sport has started to follow NUFC on tweeter!!!!! Yes I'm clutching at straws lol

As expected Kev has been asked to come in from the cold with an Ambassador role. There were reports last week that they were reaching out to club legends to try and build bridges that were destroyed by Mike.

Number 2 on the list has to change Number 9 back to Shearer's. I always made a point to go there when I flew into the city for a game. The other half also enjoyed the cocktails there lol

Keys at it again. Saying that the new chairman of the PL is a good mate and he will be speaking to him about this take over.

yeah dirt bags but that's just social media. Like I get the issues but but I'm just not interested or intend to jump up on my high horse. Just ignore and move on.
Most people are happy getting goods and money from these countries just as long as it not in the spotlight.

Out of sight out of mind!!!

People have been plane watching and Mike Ashley plane landed in the states last night and is due back into the UK tonight.

Again clutching at straws lol

Hopefully this goes through sooner rather than later. I've suffered too long and can maybe start to enjoy watching football again. I haven't cheered a single goal for us since Rafa left.

Have a load of posts disappeared or am i high(on life obvs, dont do drugs kids). Khashoggis fiancee now getting involved. This will look awful if this is approved. I get why some NUFC fans want it to go through but i think this will go on for some time.

Exclusive: Saudi Arabia set to compete for Premier League TV rights & end issue of piracy in country should NUFC takeover gain approval. Sources suspect beIN Sports opposition to Saudi ownership is motivated by fear of losing their own PL TV deal in region..

Lol no wonder Keys is going ape.
