the photo on Amazon is wrong though, it doesn't have a cut out for volume or sleep/awake button, they are covered
there's a soft gel one as well, not sure if the hard one is better? wouldn't soft gel absorb the shock better if it was dropped?

Soft cases warp with time and allows dust to get in.
I find most cases just stop the screen physically hitting the ground and the shell getting scratched.
I don't think any soft cases are anywhere near big enough to offer any real form of damping effect on drops, but that's generally not the reason phones die from being dropped.
Source: My note II signal was crap after it got dropped in a soft/hard hybrid otterbox case. fixed by replacing the motherboard due to a loose/broken connection.

i bought one of these yesterday, had a £5 voucher from ebay so made the deal even sweeter
on another note received my diztronic case today from the US
pretty good case but the camera cutout is a bit off and the speaker cutouts too.
may send them an email with a few pics and get them to hopefully tweak the design a little
