I can definately see them doing something like that with the launcher. Google have been gradually moving everything to have their own stand alone apps just as the article says.

Doing the same with the launcher should allow people to have a very close to stock experience regardless of the device they have once everything is standalone.

4.4 BETTER HAVE BATTERY PERCENTAGE because having to switch to quick settings just to see it is ANNOYING. Sense and TouchWiz both have it so it's about time!

Although it's a very small thing, this would be a big issue for me. Im just worried because on Nexus 4's I have seen online I havent seen battery % nor in 4.4 screen shoots!

With things like this, it hust makes me think that the handsets will eventually merge in to one design (or close to one design) with similar features, it will be just the software that will differ.

Even that will converge eventually.

There's a fair few apps that'll put this in the notification bar for you, but I agree, it would be nice as stock.

As said about though, it's not been in any of the leaks.

The dozen or so apps that do that for you not good enough?

No because they're on the wrong side of the screen. And they take up space in the notifications.
