*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

Yeah Sinny I was thinking about the new 5c but "bang for buck" was just not there. Current phone is a Galaxy III which I'm going to use for work.

Was seriously considering the Xperia Z1 as it has a waterproof cam and would be great for holidays with the family, but for the extra £200 I could get a decent dedicated waterproof cam and use that for much more. So the Nexus won. I think I may have been caught up a little in the "ooh when's it coming" hype too.

Don't get caught in the hype. If I had the spare cash I'd buy a Z1 over the N5 in a heartbeat. Superior in every way.

But is it £200 superior? I really doubt it.

The whole purpose of the Nexus is a cheap, yet decent device, it was never meant to beat the best of the best phones from each manufacturer. I agree that it's silly to go from a Z1, S4 or something similar to a Nexus 5, but performance per £ is unbeatable.

Looks just as we were expecting really. 4.4 makes some pretty nice changes, I'm eager to have a play! I must pop into CPW or something to take a good look :D

For those trying to cut SIMs, I strongly recommend doing it with scissors rather than a cutter, purely because you get clean cuts from the get-go and don't need to worry about smoothing the edges for tidiness. For microSIMS the cutters aren't too bad though. For nanoSIMs however, they're absolutely awful. Scissors strongly recommended for those (not relevant here of course).

After months of daily checks online I can rest now its been ordered. "Leaves warehouse by November 5". First time ever buying a phone on release day without reviews available.

I have just based my purchase off my experience on a Friends Nexus 4.

You can buy this phone in the US for $349, so why are we being charged £299?

It looks like we are being ripped off again in this country.

Yeh that surprised me a bit.

$349 = £279 last year according to Google. I don't think exchange rate has changed much since then.

The only thing that could explain it is that they realised is that complying with DSR costs a bit of money.
