*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

Cheers Fellas, I appreciate your kind words.

@Fallengod Slickwraps have released some new skins, check it out...They've made it even more difficult for you to chose a colour combo. ;)

Finally after RMA'ing the Red Nexus 5 on the 6th Feb and numerous emails to Google the returns bag arrived. Back to Google it went.

It's extremely shoddy that I had to wait near enough two weeks just for a returns bag and I'm still £340 down.

As much as I like Android, it's extremely poor how Google operate. I'll think twice before ordering something from the Play store again.

Just dropped my phone from head height, lucky only the top corner (closet to headphones) took damage. The back panel was off but I managed to clip it back in so I well need a vinyl to hide it, might buff it down a bit too.

That sucks Mate, at least you managed to clip the back panel in and the screen was undamaged. The sooner you get some vinyl the better, as it would freak my OCD out if I had to see some damage on the phone on a daily basis.

i need to charge every other day with my use Loving the phone though it's incredibly red but ultimately awesome

So far for me:
4 hours 12 mins on time
1 hour 41 mins screen time
51℅ battery left
Been playing games lots of web browsing and messaging.
WiFi scanning is on but been using mobile internet for all of my internet need's.
Location services on and notifications on.
Screen is set to auto brightness

My note 1 is at

9hrs 22mins on time
1hr 31mins screen time
44% left
Been browsing on mobile data and messaging. No games.
Facebook and Gmail notifications.
Location services off.
Auto brightness.

I'm not sure if the nexus battery is better then really. Yes you have more battery and have been playing games but you also have significant less on time.

I'd say that approx 4-5 hours screen time over 24 hours is what you should expect. That is assuming the screen on time isn't gaming or anything especially taxing. Just web browsing, checking various apps (Twitter/Facebook/Flipboard/Whatsapp), etc. Signal also, as pointed out, has a big, big impact.

If you're playing a graphically intensive game during that screen on time, expect about half of that, so 2-3 hours over 12 hours.

You aren't going to do much better than this unless you get a Galaxy Note 3. Easy solution is to buy a small mobile charging pack, like the Mophie Powerstation.

Just waiting for my train which will be an hour of screen time until I get home. Currently at:

11h 45m on battery
2h 15m screen time, which is 35% of all battery use
30% battery left

Its an improvement over previous days, but not a significant one. I've had Wifi on all day as I forgot to disable it, but its not been connected to any wifi networks and has only accounted for 5% of battery use.

The screen is still the killer. If I look at the battery drain chart you can see all the little step drops in the curve relate to whenever I've turned the screen on to check messages and emails.

Edit: ooo. Its gonna be close. Up to 3 hours screen time now and battery is down to 11%. Will it last until I get home? Lets see....

Why not buy an external battery ? I carry one in my bag. They are around £20. Mine charges my nexus five times before it needs a charge.

Because I don't think its unreasonable to expect a days use from a phone as standard?

And as for the getting home challenge, it failed. 15 mins away yet and 3%...

Check out that cliff at the end!

I would have said today was worse than you had before.

Also, 'a days use' is rather vague. 4 hours screen on time is more like 3 days use for me...

Just RMA it then. Posting a blog won't fix it. If you don't have a leaky app then you have a faulty one of you use it more than the battery will allow. Google will do a door stop swap and then you will know if its you or the phone.

Personally I don't think it's faulty. I wouldn't waste time RMAing. If anything, back up, wipe and install again. It's surprising how much a difference it can make.

As I said before though, I doubt you'll get more than 4 hours screen time.

Has anyone been able to post significantly more screen on time?

Tell me you use your phone throughout the day, as if most of that chart is it idling for the majority of the day, then something else is causing the drain (not unknown with Kitkat - post your battery stats).

What's a day's use? If you're using it constantly throughout the day, especially on a data signal, then it's never going to happen. The technology just isn't there on any smartphone.

If it is all the screen, I think you're going to have to go for a smaller-screened phone to help, but it's not going to make a huge difference. In heavy use the screen will always use the most battery - it's a big, bright 5-inch display. I'd be more than happy if the manufacturers decided to forsake a couple of mm in a phone to give them a larger battery, but sadly most of the public won't want that.

I find it odd that we have the technology to fit octa core processors, massive amounts of storage, memory and high end cameras but still the battery technology that comes with it still offers the same 1 day useage that the first iPhone came with some 7 years back.
