*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

Happened to me also: I get sent an American model. Luckily Amazon fulfilled this item so they covered the return, which was painless.

I'd always recommend getting it from Amazon themselves or Google.

I nearly forgot to mention, I did actually end up purchasing another Nexus 5 directly from the Google Play store a couple of nights ago as the signal problems on this one from Amazon were starting to get unbearable (missing calls & delayed texts), the new one from Google has just arrived :)

I've also researched a lot on the XDA forum about the batch numbers and the different niggly issues that people have had with theirs (yellow tint on screen, quality control issues with the overall build). My first Nexus 5 off amazon is from batch 402K and this new one from Google is from batch 403K which I believe is the latest one.

On the 402K one I noticed that the actual build of the phone was totally flawless; no rattly power button as reported by loads of people, sim card tray totally flush with the fascia, bigger speaker holes, though it does have a slight yellow tint on the screen which seems to be widely reported amongst other users.

This newer 403K one that I've just received from Google - most importantly, no drop in signal at all so far which I'm pleased about (it does come with the latest 4.4.2 out of the box with the .23 radio) :) However, and I am being a bit OCD here, but I have noticed looking at the speaker holes that they are the slightly smaller older ones, the sim card tray ever so slightly protrudes out on one corner (which is down to the build of the sim card tray itself I have discovered), the power button does rattle a little and the display itself looks ever so slightly different when compared to the other Nexus in my possession but it's not really bothering me at present. Besides the slightly niggy things with the build, I'm not too fussed overall as I'm still using my TPU case with phone so the power button rattle & the protruding sim card tray is not noticeable.

Also, the seller on Amazon authorized the return of my first Nexus 5 this morning. However, he wants me to return it to an address in Hong Kong?!?! In someway I was expecting this as going by one of their negative reviews, another customer reported the same thing but when they challenged it with the seller after complaining that to send it back to China would cost nearly £25 they eventually gave in and supplied a UK return address so when I messaged the seller earlier on, I stated that I want a UK return address otherwise I'm taking this matter up with Amazon themselves.

where do you see the model number

i would be very careful and call Amazon mate, if you send it to some random address you might have no comeback.. i would call Amazon and be guided by them.

as i said this happened with my father in law.

Cheers mate, I think if I don't hear back from the seller by tomorrow morning then I will peruse this with Amazon directly. You can find the batch number which is infact the beginning of the serial number on the box - it starts with 403K**********

well i switched from an iphone to this phone. ive had a good day or so playing with it now. my last android device was a samsung galaxy s2 and i was rather dissapointed with that, it last around 1 month before i sold it on and bought an iphone back.

i must say that my experience with this is a much better one.

the sound quality is amazing. using the same song, same in ears both using the heaphone jack the nexus is clearly a better performer.

mine starts with 312k

mine starts with 312k

The way the batch numbers work, the first digit i.e. in your case yours is "3" indicates the year of manufacture so 2013 and the second & third digits stand for the month so in your case December.

Also in some ways the batch numbers do make a difference, as a lot of the people who are/were experiencing the dust under the screen & severe power button rattle are on the 311K batches. However since the 401K batch the reports of the dust being present under the screen has been a lot less.

Edit - I've also realized how fast the battery drained on my other Nexus probably due to constantly dropping the signal, I remember taking it off charge yesterday morning with a full charge and it was already down to 10% by 4pm. I've been using my new Nexus for the past 6 hours and it hasn't dropped the signal once, out of the box it had around 70% of battery and now it's only down to 56%.

Funny as mine is from Google for my wife which came two days ago and is 312.

Was the one that you purchased dispatched from the Google warehouse based in Northern Ireland do you know? As that's where mine has came from. I'm not sure if Google have any other dispatching centres around the UK but if they do then I imagine that yours could have came from another dispatch centre.

Or if not that, then maybe the way Google works with picking their phones for dispatch is that they may well have various batches for the Nexus 5 i.e. 312K, 401K, 403K in stock etc. and that they just pick which ever one they could get their hands on and not taking any notice in the batch numbers.

Funny how they differ.

Mine is 311purchased in Nov it has a very loud motor.

Wife's ordered last week 312 and has a quiet motor and does not feel as snappy. Odd

From what I've read over on XDA, it seems to be a bit of a lottery when it comes to these phones at the moment and finding one that has no imperfections. When I compared the motor with both of my 5's earlier on, I also noticed that they both don't seem the same but I am still more than happy with my newly purchased second one.

I imagine though that because the phone still hasn't been out for very long, all these issues are still being ironed out and hopefully in the next 2-3 months LG will have sorted them all out.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention on my first post in this thread - did any of you notice when first opening the box after purchasing your Nexus 5's how the outside of the phone itself is riddled with white particles from the white inner cardboard? I must have spent a good 15 minutes cleaning the phone so that is was free of particles on the edges & on the back of the phone prior to putting the TPU case on. This was the case with both of my Nexus 5's.

Even after taking the the shipping screen protector off the phone, tiny particles were still present on the screen itself which was a pain to remove completely before applying the new screen protector too.

Now I can understand why phones such as the HTC One come with a near enough fully covered plastic sheet all around the phone from new so that it doesn't get riddled with these sort of particles.

£276.07 on rainforest site now, great price

i did well to sell mine at £240 (4 months old)

When I was looking to purchase my original one last Thursday, at the time the price was even lower at £249 through a 3rd party seller and their were only around 5 left in stock and then 3 hours later when I finally got round to making the purchase, all of them had sold (damn!) as another seller had been put in place instead and they were up for £267 and that's when I made my purchase.

I think though at the time Amazon themselves were still selling them for around the £290 mark so the price drop now is impressive.
