*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

So tempted to buy one of these, getting bored of my Note 2 now (ive had it a year, so that'll do hehe)

Was considering the Note 3, but fed up with slow updates coming down etc, and all the bloatware running.

And listening to Nexus18 comments has nearly nailed it on for me to purchase aswell lol.

apart from screen size being different, im guessing ill notice a huge difference in performance going from a note 2 to N5 etc

DO IT! :D Apart from battery life, storage expansion, audio (if you aren't an audiophile, I doubt you would notice much, if any difference) and possibly the screen (depends on your screen type preference), pretty much everything is better on the N5.

Still loving my N5, everything about it is superb especially considering the price!

The 2 points that most reviewers/people complain about are perfectly fine imo, battery life is better than my 1s (and this is with crappy signal as well.....), camera is much better overall too.

I did have some screenshots of battery stats but accidentally deleted them, with minimal usage I had reached 3 days with 40% battery left and nearly 2 hours on screen time!

Camera still impresses me, just point and shoot, fast focus, fast shutter/processing:

Only areas that need to be improved are; network signal strength and for that video recording hiss noise to be removed!

Well 443 was due last month according to the rumour mill. However I guess they will hold it back to there yearly conference in June. I hope they don't but I reckon they will.

I think it went into internal testing last month (rolled out to Google employee's phones), but I'm not sure it was due for release then.

I think the flurry of Google apps updates suggests there's still hope for it in the next week or two.

How quick are Play Store at delivering?

Says "Dispatched from warehouse in 1 - 2 business days." but not how long or what service they use..

Thanks

They use Parcel Force next Business Day delivery

If you ordered today I think Thursday would be the latest you would get it, normally they dispatch same/next day.

I'm on Vodafone my N5 is doing great for signal, generally have 4-5 bars of LTE all over London. In terms of WiFi I max out most places I go, generally 3-4 bars, but off course this depends on the router and the distant, either way no problems personally.

Yup, was on o2 for past 2 years, before that with 3 but back then 3 were beyond terrible, now they are great, getting 13 MB dll and 2MB upload, with o2 you were lucky to get anything higher than 2MB download, not to mention all you can eat data with 3

It is weird though as o2 was fine on my one s, had mostly full bars, but on the n5, I hardly ever got more than 2 bars at my home with o2 and the n5.

Also, I can now select 2G as my preferred network on the n5, with giffgaff, tesco and 02, you only had the option to choose 3G or 4G as your preferred network type.

Wifi reception is good on the n5 (using the superhub V2), here is a screenshot showing signal stuff (just walked around the house)

And a speedtest on the 2G band, I can get my full 100MB on the 5G band but our connection line or/and router is messed up atm :(

Those speeds aren't too shabby!

Wireless at home shouldn't be an issue although 3G isnt great where I live as long as I have enough signal to chat to work from home I don't care ..

Nice photos Nexus! Got to say I'm not really that impressed with the camera on my 5s. Not sure why, the pictures just seem...... lacking something. Compared to the Nexus 5 and its HDR+ at least.

A weak signal also drains battery quicker, will be interesting to see how my n5 battery life is now, as battery life was pretty damn good even with a weak signal.

Thanks mike :)

IMO the 5s camera is over rated, it is nice but nowhere as good as what people/reviewers make it out to be and iirc it is pretty poor at capturing photos of movement/action scenes?

The thing I like the most about the n5 camera is that it is good in every area, with most mobile cameras, they will excel in one area but suck in another area or more, be it; low resolution, poor exposure, crap video recording, poor with movement scenes i.e. pets & kids or for the majority of mobiles, absolute **** in low light conditions.

The 5s camera sucks for anything relating to my two year old if that's what you mean! He normally lands up a blurry mess! Going to get this 5s unlocked and chop it back into smartfonestore (It's worth £45 more unlocked) so away she goes!

I'll switch back to the 4s while I wait for the Nexus 5 and job jobbed!

I haven't had a problem with that at all. In fact, I haven't had any blurry photos yet.....

OIS is really helping especially in low light conditions.

edit:

Yup, slow shutter Mike.

Good to hear you are moving away from the dark side again....... :p :D

Have to agree pictures are quite good. Battery someTimes randomly drains though it's android system according to gsam. Definitely wake locks. Other times it's great.
