*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

i hope for two options.

the iphone model seems to have worked well...

why do android companies release low spec 'mini' versions.

why not two identical speced phones just different sizes?????

Outside of Sony its all just money grabbing, things like the HTC One Mini 2 (What a name), S5 mini are over price mid range devices.

The rumour of the 5.2" is a good size for me. If they only release a 5.9" one then I'm going to be disappointed, all the newest phones to come out have either bad specs or are too big. 5"-5.2" is perfect

The nexus 5 I have is good but the camera I find poor. Reception is poor and battery life is poor (IMO) I'm running android L too so battery is supposed to be better

If I purchase a Nexus 5 from the rainforest (uk model 16gb) I presume it will be unlocked and work on the three network without issue?

Yup, but at this point I would really wait its really only a few weeks before the Nexus 5 2014/Nexus 6 drops.

The refresh of the 5 is confirmed then?

* Edit - Scrap that, didn't realise it's currently known as the 6/x/5 2014 and an all new phone. The screen size will be over 5" no doubt so won't bother with it and I believe it's already been confirmed the price of the 5 won't lower any further - even if it does from play, it likely won't undercut the current rainforest price.

It seems fairly certain there will be a 6" Nexus, but there's also been plenty of rumours for a 5" one too, though what the differences will be is anyone's guess currently.

If you like the current N5 2013 don't be put off though - it's a great phone and I can't see any 5" 2014 drubbing it. It might have a bigger battery but I expect anything else will be negligible - and the N5 2013 will get Android L anyway, which is where the biggest change will be.... and if the 6" leaks are anything to go by the N5 2013 will look miles better than the 2014 model(s).

You'll have to get an N5 2013 soon though as stock is already dropping and it won't be replaced.

Nearly 1 year on.... and I'm still loving my '5.

Battery life I find to be very good to be honest - the reception is not as good as my girlfriend's HTC One however, same network, same flat, she always has a better signal.

Really looking forward to the new nexus - as long as it's not a 6" screen I think I'll make the jump.

The good news is, is that the rumours around this 6" Moto X(L) is likely just Motorola's flagship entry into the phablet market to compete with the Note 4 and iPhone6+.

The weird thing about this means we have absolutely no knowledge on what device Google will launch with it's new OS Android L. I highly doubt they will only launch with a single the device (the HTC Nexus 9 tablet)...a phone must be in the works.

Every previous year and every other manufacturer device we knew almost everything about it before launch. Yet this time around and about 3 weeks away we don't even know if there is a new Nexus phone let alone anything about it.

Is it me or does the Nexus make everything else look horribly overpriced? I played with a Z3 today, there is no way I'd put down £500+ for that or any of the other flagships for that matter. My N5 has certainly changed the way I look at upgrades now.

same. I could fly to Barbados for that money. Or buy an xbone One and Halo Master Chief collection and more for that price. Stupid what they get away with these days for a phone.
Nexus prices are forever my budget for a phone. Any higher and I'd need a contract...

Any tech is like this. Just look at graphics cards. Top end are £500+. If you go down one version you can easily take £200 off that price.

I agree though. Spending £500-600 every year or two is crazy.

Depends, if you keep the device in good shape then it becomes £200 upgrade ever year or so. E.G Nexus 5 cost me £350, I can sell it for £250 pretty easily and upgrade to the next gen device.

This is very interesting. How come you're not thinking of holding out til March for the release of the HTC One M9 (hopefully in GPE form) to compare?

Well, to be fair, whilst the flagship mainstream devices are expensive you do get more in the package. Compared to the N5 the Z3 has better everything. That's not to knock the N5, but there's a reason it's cheap - it's pretty no-frills. Some people are fine with that and that's OK - I was the same a while back but these days I quite like extra feature/bigger batteries/better design or whathaveyou
