*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

You can, the text is black but the background is grey.

Your text is black because your background is black. If your background is grey like my wallpaper image is, the text won't be readable.

I love the pin function. I can now put the CBBC app on and lock it knowing my kid can't exit and mess my phone up.

How do you do this?

Battery life is impressing me so far, very few wakelocks compared to kit Kat.

Also like the smart unlock with face.

Open the app you want to pin, then press square - there should be a pin icon on the app. I think you can only pin the most recently used app.

edit: not noticed any battery improvements after two days, though that might be because I've been using it more whilst checking out the new features.

Yeah is needs tweaking tbh.

Can't wait for my screen. Using this with a smashed one is painful. Hopefully it will come tomorrow in the post

Has L been sorted for Root yet? Also is there any decent kernels for L yet :)

Any word on Xposed also?

A beginner of this nature probably shouldn't be rooting anything.

The OS version doesn't stop a phone being rootable.

But, yes, you can root and Franco kernels are available too

Bah, I am a right noob at this side loading thing!

Tried doing it but get device can't be found and then when I try to install the nexus 5 drivers, it doesn't work!

Any one got a better guide for sideloading the OTA image? The XDA one is too "basic"

EDIT:

NVM got it now :D

Really liking 5.0 So clean and animation galore!

Love the screen off animation too, the CRT monitor off animation was seriously outdated looking!

Still a few inconsistent areas with regards to the UI and sidebar though but am sure they will be adjusted soon.....

Are you guys manually updating using WUG? The same method as getting it on a Nexus 7?

I flashed the Factory image in fastboot on my Nexus 5. Ended up having to wipe my phone, no biggie but it didn't go like it normally does due to various issues I had not come across before. (I should have waited for OTA ZIP :D )

I sideloaded the OTA update zip on my misses Nexus 5 in recovery mode. Easy peasy. Done in 5 minutes. No errors and all data was untouched. Good job too, if I lost any of her stuff I would not be here today :( :p :D

edit** Mine is now seeing my 5Ghz wifi on my Homehub 5. I enabled Auto (smart wireless) and the phone found it and connected right away.
I set it back to a channel manually and it disappeared again.

I only had one issue with sideloading the OTA.zip (device not found in cmd) but once that was sorted, the update went nice and smoothly, took about 10 minutes in total.

I followed section a on here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/info-nexus-5-ota-help-desk-t2523217

And to fix the device not found, I had to install the universal adb driver by koush.

No data deleted etc. and I should have no problems receiving future OTA's automatically :)

Messing around with the camera, not sure yet if the quality is better or not but HDR+ seems slower???

Also got the l-camera installed for raw shots, any good guides/apps on processing photos on my phone?
