*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

Still no 5.1 OTA update available for my N5. I'll give the sideloading another go tonight but I'm getting frustrated that I'm stuck in the middle. :(

Maybe you should try my approach:

Step 1: Stop faffing around with all this sideloading ****
Step 2: Go outside... enjoy life
Step 3: Wait for OTA notification and take pleasure in the surprise when it comes.

Trust me. It will make you a better person.

I tried that, it's really boring. :D

You guys obviously use your phones wayyyyyy too much or leave data services running constantly.

Less than an hour screen time, and it'll be at ~20% by the end of the day. It's okay after a reboot (but still not as good as it used to be), but after a couple of days 's utter garbage again.

Just got the OTA too! WHOOP! :D

Saying that I haven't had any serious issues with lollipop on my n5, my n7 2013 on the other hand....

edit:

hmmm
stuck on waiting to download....

edit:

I'm using my phone exactly the same as I always have. On 4.x it was touch and go if I'd get home from work with it still having charge, but on 5.x it won't make it to 5pm without being topped up.

Well so far, the phone feels BUTTERY smooth and just that little bit more snappier, for me 5.0.1 wasn't bad at all, everything just felt a ms or 2 delayed but that seems to be gone.

I never noticed the multi-tasking issue with apps (probably cause I have hardly any apps installed, perfectly happy with the stock experience), however, noticed web pages reloading in chrome a lot when switching back and forth so will keep an eye on that.

Battery life has always been hit and miss for me, can be great at one time then terrible at another so I just charge every night and have no issues getting through a day of heavy usage.

Now lets see how long it takes Samsung to get 5.1 on the GS 6, this will make or break my decision to switch to the gs6....

5.1 was simply released to fix bugs in AOSP. The S6 may simply have none of these bugs to begin with. And performance is certainly not the problem. :p

I never had any performance issues with 5.01 apart from the battery, it was always snappy. I haven't noticed any difference in speed with 5.1 and with the battery down to 98% after only 35mins off charge... Perhaps my battery is just shafted. I hate looking for a new phone..

Simular boat re battery life.

Do the other devices that received lollipop not have the same issues though especially the battery life?

I think that was more to do with needing a factory reset after updating.

GSMArena's endurance rating for the S5 went up after the LP update. And so did the M8's. EDIT - Their test for the Nexus 5 showed lesser endurance funnily enough. 40hrs vs 38.

Also being a Nexus, they took their sweet time to fix the bugs wouldn't you say? 5.0 came with the Nexus 6 back in Nov. 4 Months ago.

Factory reset made no difference with my 5.01 battery issues (or 5.0), I cba to go do it yet again.

Can't disagree there although we did have 5.0.1 and 5.0.2 (for some devices I think) in between.

Like I said, my n5 has been pretty good for speed and smoothness even on 5.0.1, now it just feels more instant and I haven't had any serious issue with the memory leak either.

Still it doesn't change the fact that OEMs (especially older devices) will always lag behind nexus devices by at least 5 months for the "big/fun" updates :p

I do wish google tested the big updates out more before releasing them though but then again, these nexus devices are still "developer" phones at the end of the day when you think about it.

Yes OEMs do lag behind but then again, with performance and features being very good across the board nowadays it really isn't a big deal like it used to be IMO. I'd rather wait for the matured, more stable release.

But I can fully see you point on wanting the latest Android release as it happens. I'm more into the better hardware, as I can get around tailoring the software to my liking.
