*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

Almost every company works like this.

I can't say I've ever had a shipping confirmation email when the parcel hasn't actually shipped though.

It might just be that I've not noticed, but generally I've always seen it that the emails come through once the parcel is actually on the way. But then again, that's usually for parcels with delivery date estimates.

Well I've had mine for over 24 hours now so I'll just summarise my thoughts (compared to my Nexus 4):

- The shape and feel is a step up from the Nexus 4. I thought the N4 felt nice, but the curve and texture of the N5 makes it more comfortable to hold.
- The ceramic buttons have a nice defined edge to them, making searching for the buttons in your pocket much easier. They feel nice when pressed.
- The screen is very nice. More colourful than the N4, and great viewing angles.
- Speaker quality is noticeably better than the N4, but still not very loud.
- The camera has some focussing issues still.
- KitKat looks great. The minor aesthetic changes add up to a very clean, modern look. I find myself turning the phone on just to look at the new home screen :p

For anyone deliberating about black vs white version. I may be able to help, because I've had both in my hands. I originally went in to CPW for the SIM free white version, but I came away with the black, this is why: Although the finish of the white backplate is nice, LG have made it worse (IMO) by making the outer edge trim shiny black, as opposed to matte black on the black version. I think the matte black effect (on the sides) is nicer. Also the earpiece is white! I have no idea why, it looks odd :/ Still, if you have a white version on the way don't worry, it still looks cool overall.

Yeah, it seems Google's idea of shipped is that it's sitting waiting for collection for parcel force to collect. A bit lame really, especially for a company such as Google.

Almost every company works like this.

That's not how every company works, I would say very few work like that. The parcel should get a scan when it is picked up, and that's when the shipped email is usually sent.

But then Google also seem to think putting it onto the parcelforce van is enough to say "delivered". And charge a tenner for what seems to be a 2 day service.

Nice one Sunbed. How's the battery life?

This is strange. It says Shipped on Google, and Collected from Customer on Parcelforce.

Just had a call from HSBC to say the transaction was declined. Not sure what's going on as they wouldn't be delivering it if I haven't paid yet. :/

Just spotted an e-mail from Google, turns out the order which had went through even though it gave an error, which support promised me would be cancelled, is now in the Glasgow Depot along with the other properly ordered one. Google support is closed today but I'll be giving them some tomorrow when they're open.

Now I either need to go through the hassle of rejecting one delivery and accepting the other, then hoping the delivery driver doesn't just take the phone and deny it, or I accept the delivery then have to go through the returns process, which is a nightmare, or I accept the delivery and sell it on to someone, but it's not exactly like they're out of stock. Either way, I'm £300 out of pocket for at least a month because of a Google error (they take 14 days apparently to refund money), I have 2 of the same phone which is completely pointless and I'm not happy at all with Google Support. I'm gonna kick up **** tomorrow on the phone to them.

Anyone around Glasgowish looking for a Nexus tomorrow?

I'll post a screenshot later of battery stats (if that will tell you much), but for now I would say the rate of drain seems slightly less than than the Nexus 4, which is good, nothing ground breaking though. I've been charging on and off so I've not got a proper appreciation of it yet. I'll start it from full now and post back when it's nearly drained.

I would just stick it on ebay if I were you. Think you could be quids in?

So, are we any closer to having mobile payments using NFC? I'm on my third phone with NFC now and not once have I used it, what a waste of time.

I've had mine since Friday morning and battery isn't brilliant if I'm honest :(

If so, that's really tedious. Frustrating that Google keeps putting tiny batteries in these things. My N4 is basically useless for more than 10 hours these days.

Ordered at 6:03 and received google shipped email on Friday morning but like others my parcelforce tracking shows 'unable to confirm status'. Parcelforce said they were notified of the package at 5pm so didn't have time to pickup on Friday. It will be picked up on Monday and Delivered Tuesday.

This tracking page at least shows its a valid tracking number:

It says on google play just to not accept the delivery. Since you have not signed for it what is the problem?

9hr 13min off charge with 25% left, just texting and web browsing.

Andriod os with 50% usage.

You can't take one person's opinion about battery life as gospel; we have no idea about the combination of apps, signal strength or usage of that one person's setup.

Phones tend to take a hammering with usage when they're new due to setting them up and constantly playing with them until the novelty wears off.
