*** Nexus 7 2nd Gen thread ***

Yes the tablet from the Mac on home WiFi.

You could always use Plex, it won't tie in with itunes (AFAIK) but all you need to do is add your movie/tv/music folders (where they're all stored on your mac) and then install the app on your N7 (and any other android phone/tablet) and it'll stream from your mac over wifi to your tablet, and transcode any video/audio on the fly if it needs to.

Plex Home server (the back end) is free, it'll download all the cover art/info etc and the front end (for the tablet) costs a couple of quid. And it's awesome :)

That looks like it does a lot! Will it mess with my iTunes library as I don't want to affect that?

Been a while since I've used itunes, I presume your itunes library is just a bunch of movies/tv episodes/music in different folders?

Shouldn't affect it at all, in fact there's probably some itunes features built in. The server bit is free, you can get all that set up very quickly. I think it does prefer files to be in separate folders though, so for 1 folder for movies, another for TV shows and so on, then each movie in its own folder within the parent folder, each tv show in their own folder etc. You can always manually match videos or music that plex doesn't automatically match as well. And of course you can change cover art to your liking.

All it does is read whats in the folders you choose to add to it, then downloads the info/cover art etc for them and adds them to your library. It doesn't change anything in your actual folders, the only thing it does do is add a cache where it stores all the information.

Edit: Looks like it may even automatically acquire itunes content, so you wouldn't even need to add the folders/files separately.

For example this is how my movies section within plex media server on windows looks:

Was looking on the play store not an hour ago, and the lack of the LTE N7 was obvious.

I go to look now, and IT'S THERE!! :D

Edit: i presume this is ok, OCUK don't sell the LTE version, right?

Need some advice. I have been offered a full refund for the first gen Nexus 7 because it is faulty well the adapter is, so I'm wondering is it worth getting the N7 2? Is it a big improvement and also have the faults been fixed on them?

Cheers

i genuinely have zero need for built in data, especially as i have a smartphone capable of tethering.

so i see it as wasting £100+ on something i can do right now for free.

the nexus 7 v2 is in a totally different league.

the screen is just WOW and the extra power, slimness, etc are all a bonus.

everything is better, why would you not want to?

True, if you have a 4G phone and can tether then you've probably got no need for the 4G version. Some people will want it though. I'm tempted as I only have a 3G (2-3Mb download) phone with limited data (on GiffGaff PAYG), still making my mind up personally. Anyway, looks like the 4G version has now been launched pretty much everywhere :)

I'm on giffgaff too so long as you use it for browsing your fine.

Streaming and downloading are no no's

Can anyone recommend a good user guide for this? I'm a bit lost on a few things.

EDIT: on Ice Storm Extreme I get 7184 after a reboot (it was 6528 before reboot).

Still cant find what I'm looking for, four things:

1. I somehow added a second clock to my lock screen digital clock widget. How do I add/remove more time zones? Deleting the widget and adding a new one doesnt do it.

2. Is there a way to sort/auto arrange the home screen icons (e.g. alphabetically like the full apps list)?

3. Is there a way to close all open apps or those that have cached data?

4. On the "Play Movies" app under personal movies, how do I get it to show the name of the file? At the moment it just shows a screen shot of the show but no way to differentiate episodes unless I check the file details.

Thanks in advance.

FSTrim only runs under certain conditions and one of those is a reboot so it may be something to do with that.
