*** Nexus 7 2nd Gen thread ***

the nexus 7 v2 is in a totally different league.

the screen is just WOW and the extra power, slimness, etc are all a bonus.

everything is better, why would you not want to?

Cheers man, I think I'll go for a full refund and a new tablet then, need to fork out an extra £40 :o

£40 is nothing for the amount of upgrade you get.

I sold my V1 for £100 and got the V2 for £170 (32GB version) and I think it's money well spent, so it cost me an extra £70 even though I got the V2 at a hugely discounted price (imported from canada whilst on holiday).

for an extra £40 you should be kicking yourself why you didn't just do it in the first place before asking.

The 8MB OTA showed up last night:

There's no official changelog yet but people seem to think it may help with the multi touch issues.

Excellent news - it's the only thing I had to complain about tbh and even then it was still a minor thing as it's infrequent.

Glad I kept mine! :) - i'm beginning to love it more and more as each day passes lol

Still cant find what I'm looking for, four things:

1. I somehow added a second clock to my lock screen digital clock widget. How do I add/remove more time zones? Deleting the widget and adding a new one doesnt do it.

2. Is there a way to sort/auto arrange the home screen icons (e.g. alphabetically like the full apps list)?

3. Is there a way to close all open apps or those that have cached data?

4. On the "Play Movies" app under personal movies, how do I get it to show the name of the file? At the moment it just shows a screen shot of the show but no way to differentiate episodes unless I check the file details.

Thanks in advance.

Bumping some questions I had previously but haven't been able to find answers to (don't want to start a new thread as it will just get merged with this one).

Still not got the update yet

sorry for being dim, never had a nexus device before - is there like a staggered rollout or are we supposed to get the updates at the same time? ta

Yep it's staggered to avoid the servers falling over I'd imagine and also if it turns out it kills devices they they've got a chance to stop it :D

Been a while since I've used itunes, I presume your itunes library is just a bunch of movies/tv episodes/music in different folders?

Shouldn't affect it at all, in fact there's probably some itunes features built in. The server bit is free, you can get all that set up very quickly. I think it does prefer files to be in separate folders though, so for 1 folder for movies, another for TV shows and so on, then each movie in its own folder within the parent folder, each tv show in their own folder etc. You can always manually match videos or music that plex doesn't automatically match as well. And of course you can change cover art to your liking.

All it does is read whats in the folders you choose to add to it, then downloads the info/cover art etc for them and adds them to your library. It doesn't change anything in your actual folders, the only thing it does do is add a cache where it stores all the information.

Edit: Looks like it may even automatically acquire itunes content, so you wouldn't even need to add the folders/files separately.

For example this is how my movies section within plex media server on windows looks:

Thanks for the help with this I will have a bash at it on the weekend!

Hang on, I appear to have been under a rock, there's a new version of the Nexus 7?

In a nut shell, why should I upgrade from my current 16GB first Gen 7?

2. I don't think there is a way to do it alphabetically

3. If you long press one of the touch sensitive buttons (the menu one I think) then it should come up with a list of all open apps. There is a trashcan symbol in the corner, just press that

The screen is redonkulous. That alone is worthy of an upgrade :D

And of course it's slimmer, lighter, faster, (stronger? :p).

SD card slot?

I don't really use mine for anything that would benifit from the upgrade. Doesn't stop me wanting one though :)
