*** Nexus 7 2nd Gen thread ***

Argh, ordered my Nexus 7 2nd Gen new on Saturday, still has not been dispatched yet, not a happy person

Damn you online with your cheap prices, and your cheap eco deliveries with no option for faster processing, guess it was the best price though so will have to wait.

With the best way to deal with storage on these, as I have only gone for the 16gb model, cloud storage? google drive?

Hi all, picking up my 16gb Nexus 7 2nd Gen today.

As I want to set this thing up properly, can anyone recommend a definitive guide to "must do" things when your setting these up? I am a bit of a noob when it comes to android.

From what I gather, first things are to boot up/update to latest OS with any further updates, then root the device, is there any harm in rooting? I understand this invalidates your warranty? can you put it back to the way it was if you need to sort something in warranty (IE Rollback or recovery)?

But I know there is more to it than that. I am going to check out a few links on Google but wanted to see if there was a recommended guide someone had bookmarked thats more trusted than some of the results I am seeing.

Would appreciate any info :)

Personally unless you plan to overclock it with it being stock Google I don't see much need in a root, it stops a lot of banking apps working too... If your new to android I would get used to the device first unless you have ideas of what your going to use the root for.

I want to get rid of the anticipated bloatware that I am thinking is going to come with device, you would need to root to do this?

Never got to pick it up today :( pickup after 5pm my ass

What do you mean by 'Bloatware?' It's brilliant right out the box.

Cool, cheers :) I picked mine up today, just having a play around on it. Really impressed with the screen, seems very snappy too

Guys can this stream movies at all? I am a little worried about it having the same specs as my old nexus 4 phone as xbmc on that runs like ass and cant play anything at all.

Was hoping to get a tablet that i could plug into the tv with a slimport and watch my movies streamed from serviio on like i did with laptop and currently do with a ps3. But my nexus 4 cant handle it and this appears to be the same spec?

So its essentially a nexus 4 with a bigger screen and no phone component?

there is still some apps on here that are un-needed and I would like to remove.

For now I am trying to figure out what can be disabled, but eventually I want them removed, trying to work out how to disable the widget page also.
