*** Nexus 7 2nd Gen thread ***

I've noticed mine misses quite a few touches when typing. It's very frustrating! More so in landscape then portrait. Doesn't like fast typers at all.

Took mine back today for exactly this reason :( The keys would either not register/double-triple register or just for fun would stick on one key

no problems with either of my Nexus 7's, V1 and V2, V1 has now been sold.

had a 10 inch tablet in the past, far too big to be useful tbh, it falls in between the right sized tablet (7 inch) and a ultrabook or notebook and for me has zero use tbh.

if i want a bigger screen, i use the laptop, if i want to read, do some quick browsing or messing around then 7 inch tablet all the way.

the only place i see a 10 inch tablet being superior is for sky go, but i can live with 7 inch tbh.

Sigh. Another go with Android and another returned device. I really want to like Android but after the first gen Nexus 7 fell apart on me and it's speakers blew, I returned it and waited. Picked up the 2013 Nexus 7 and it's a vast improvement hardware wise and initially I was really happy!

Then after a few hours using it I still kept missing keyboard keys and spaces and at first blamed the keyboard. Then I noticed games didn't perform right and it was as input was failing.

After looking online I did this test and have the same problem with ghost touches. These were the reason for my keyboard not hitting space bar so often it was noticeable and for multi touch games failing to work.

This is really noticeable if you hold down shift with your left finger and touch keys Z to M one at a time with your right finger. Because they are on the same line it spazzes out and inputs random characters, turns shift on and off randomly, etc. Good test to see if yours is affected. My mate has the LTE version and it works fine so I wonder if WiFi only ones are affected?

Some links I've found. People with unlocked bootloaders could give this a go and let the rest of us know how it goes? Mine isn't unlocked so I'm hesitant to try it as it means resetting my device:

If you hold the device in your hand you may not see this issue, lay it down and you will.

Is someone willing to give this a go with their unlocked bootloader device?

I'd like to know if anyone genuinely doesn't have the problem. It's fine of holding the device but breaks if in a case or on a desk unplugged like at work.

I'm hesitant to get a replacement as it's such a massive widespread problem looking online, but a live chat with Asus resulted in the guy claiming it isn't a known issue which I don't believe at all.

Samsung = Good hardware but shoddy Touchwiz and slow updates unless you root
Nexus = Good clean Android but shoddy hardware!

Can't win :(

new problems with my nexus 7 2013 had it since 1 day before launch date, no problems with touch screen or hardware

Ok, can someone confirm if I have to wipe my Nexus to be able to unlock the bootloader? If I don't have to then I want to try the fix I linked to above.

Ta.

OK. I've decided I'm going to return my unit and get a replacement from the purple people. If the next one has the same issue then I am going to try the fix I linked above.

Yes, unlocking the bootloader wipes the device for security reasons iirc.

No touch screen issues with my 2013 Nexus 7. Slight issues when plugging headphones in (sometimes have to "jiggle" the jack), otherwise its been perfect.

It is cased and I type with either hand.

I tried this a while ago and it seemed to fix a couple of dead spots. I'm going to try a couple of others as I still get some ghost touches. I must admit I unlocked mine straight away, but what did happen is when I unlocked it the build number changed.
