NFL 2021 Season

Yeah, definitely, it was a fantastic stop. I guess I was annoyed the person that spotted it ran from the line of scrimmage and spotted it a yard short of a 1st down. Clearly in the replay he'd caught it at about the unofficial line/41 and then got pushed/moved slightly back. Forward progress should have meant at least a measure, but I accept it did look like he didn't quite have enough for a first.

As I often say though, you never win or lose a game on one play. There were lots of plays that could have been different which would have changed the result (failed fake punt, muffed punt, drop on 3rd down before the 4th in which we failed, jumping off-sides when clearly that's all they were trying to get us to do etc)

Yep. Steelers are a good team too. Just lacked an offense, where they now seemed to have put something together this season. Williams being immediately effective as well.

Maybe there is some life in the Bears

Shane Waldron, OC has been sacked - NFL.com link

Might not be the only thing wrong with the Bears tbf, but something had to be done. The offense has been turgid for most of this season so far. Even if the offensive line has been mostly injured.

Result! Good win to beat the Chiefs with a few key players out, and even better that we've stopped their unbeaten run! :D

Great game to watch. I don't mind the Chiefs and they clearly are a great dynasty but it can be boring. The Allen run for the winning score and interception felt like the icing on the cake.

Honestly how are the Jets doing so bad with that team? I don't know them inside out, but with that D and their O skill positions, surely they should be reasonably successful?
It’s a complete mystery. They’ve invested heavily and taken a punt on Rodgers (who must be retiring at the end of this season?), but despite some initial promise don’t look much better than when Darnold was playing. Look at how he’s playing now for goodness sake! There must be big back room issues to explain it.

What was going on with the Bears clock management? I commented to friends with about 1:10 left that Williams seemed a little too casual. Then at the end of the play at 33s my brother was screaming at them to take a TO, while I was saying 'no, keep that, complete a quick pass over the middle and call the TO for the FG attempt'. Neither of us had considered option 3, casually wonder around, wait until you know its the last play and then bounce the ball of the turf somewhere near the sideline. Kind of obvious, when you think about it...

**Plot twist** The Bears have been trying to lose these games. The hail mary, the blocked kick... it's all part of their plan!

Don't.

Brutal season, the parallels with 2014 are uncanny.

Although I think the Bears had to sack their HC mid-season for the first time in history. It was clear Eberflus lost the team and the hiring of Shane Waldron did not work. Hopefully we see some better morale and some of the basic undisciplined rubbish is reduced over the final 5 games.

Okay, that's almost funny (well, not for Bears fans) but I had thought 'That's the kind of mess that will make heads roll...', I didn't realise they'd actually fired him.
Bears fans were lining up renting out billboards on 1920 drive (like the Bulls fans did) so to say this has been well received is an understatement. Brian Thomas has been a breath of fresh air and full credit to him for getting us throw 3 hard games only losing by a FG. He had to do open-heart surgery to get that offence functioning after the Cards and Pats games.

I think Eberflus's Bears were always undisciplined and making real rookie mistakes at coaching. Even the very first play in London was this stupid lining up penalty that just seems to have characterised the Bears for so much of Eberflus near-3 seasons as a HC. The players were gone and I think the Bears had to remove him (I think there's also an argument about your duty to protect employees). People were turning up to Nagy's sons high school games and booing him so there's that too. In this day and age social media is too brutal to sit on things.

I do think this could be the year of rookie talent at HC (everyone is going to want Johnson) but one aspect that lets the Bears down is historically poor leadership and a GM that won't be aligned if we keep Poles. I kinda think his role should be up for review too.
