Nice pongs and gorgeous whiffs. The Aftershave thread!

Anyone tried Byredo - Bal d'Afrique?

Mate of mine brought it into work with him and it smells great, very expensive though, £115 for 50ml.

Its ok, sweet and fruit but with most Byredos they feel sort of thin, so never worth the money for me.

Milestone is a unisex fragrance but does it lean more towards a feminine scent or not?

I’ve had unisex fragrances before which were always too sweet smelling for me.

Bal d'Afrique is a lot more feminine than Milestone. Milestone is very gender natural imo...its citrus/fruit based with a salty accord with not much sweetness.

Well I had my first spray of the London Oud by Frangrance Du Bois today and i have to say I was very impressed with it. Initially i did wonder if i put too much on as i smelt the fragrance instantly but this may be in part that i haven't worn much in a while. Every so often during the day and even now, I'm still getting the occassional whiff and it is very pleasant compared to the usual Boss, CK, Armani etc that i have in the cupboard not that they're bad in any way (others may disagree!).

I'm not even going describe the 'fragrance notes' as I wouldn't know where to begin with it so lifted off the website.....

Top Notes
Lemon, Bergamot, Spearmint
Middle Notes
Lavender, jasmine, White Flowers, Marine Notes
Base Notes
Patchouli, Cedar Wood, Nutmeg, Cardamom, 100% pure organic vintage Oud

I'll be trying a new sample all of this week from the pack i ordered to see which ones I prefer. :)

Tried out the New York 5th Avenue by Fragrance Du Bois today and although this might sound odd, but when i got a whiff of it my first thought that this would be an aftershave to wear in the evening. A lot muskier than the London Oud from yesterday. If I'm honest it conjures up an image of an aftershave to wear to a formal black tie event or an event where there would be a group of well turned out blokes smoking cigars! Quite a heavy fragrance to it.

As above, from the website

Top Notes
Bergamot, Rose
Middle Notes
Caramel, Violet, Cyproil
Base Notes
Vanilla, Musk, Cashmir Wood, Guaiac Wood

Today's offering is the Milano by Fragrance Du Bois. A middle ground fragrance between the London Oud and New York 5th Avenue. Best way to describe it was a slight vanilla / marzipan type fragrance about it. Not too musky and not too flowery.

As before, from the website.....

Top Notes
Saffron, Thyme, Bergamot, Orange
Middle Notes
Olibanum, Jasmine, Fruity Notes
Base Notes
Leather, Musk, Amber, Woody Notes, Vanilla

Anyone tried Mont Blanc INDIVIDUEL or Halloween Man X £35 notes on Amazon see it in Youtube video recommended.

Individuel is nice, smells a lot like Joop Homme but in a good way. You wouldn't smell it on someone and think it's Joop, but the similarities are there.

Bargain! You tried any of the other flankers? Pulse or Noir Ambre?
I haven’t. Tempted by noir ambre though ! It’s quite difficult to find though (essentual usually have Or Encens and Noir Ambre though for £54 each 100ml)

edit. Just checked. They have Or Encens in stock. But not Noir Ambre.

Second last sample of the fragrance du Bois today. It was New York intense......the initial splash on, the fragrance was intense to the point of pungent! Not a fragrance I would recommend unless you enjoy visiting Turkish brothels (not that I'd know :p) but the aroma certainly wasn't to my tastes. It did mellow a bit during the day but it was something that didn't sit right with me.

From the website.....

Top Notes
Cinnamon, Coriander, Orange, Blackberry, Bay Leaf, Rose
Middle Notes
Olibanum, Guaiac Wood, Clove, Vanilla, Honey, immortelle, Orchid
Base Notes
Vetiver, Cedarwood, Oud, Myrhh, Patchouli, Musk, Amber, Labdanum, Oakmoss

Ah Essentual had Noir Ambre for pretty cheap about a month ago.... Sorry!

Forgot to do a write up on Friday about the last of the samples I had from fragrance du Bois. It was the Parisian fragrance. Quite a light flowery fragrance which I could best describe as a lighter version of Chanel no5 or just the culmination of fragrances you smell when you walk through the women's fragrance and make up department of boots! As the fragrances are described as unisex this is certainly one of the more feminine smelling ones. I couldn't see the bottle listed on their website under fashion capitals so not sure on the 'notes' involved
