*** Nintendo Switch ***

And this is still pointless as it doesn't change the fact the console is too expensive EVERYWHERE.

Considering the tech the console itself doesn't seem that expensive, obviously everyone has their own idea of value but some people are happy to spend what I would consider ridiculous sums of money on an iPad or Macbook, that's up to them.

I won't argue the peripherals are pretty expensive though, but I bet we'll see retailers drop these prices very soon. Zelda has already dropped from £60 to £48 on Amazon (if you have Prime).

Sounds like your making an assumption that the price would be different only in the UK if this was announced at this time last year.

It seems like you do not understand exchange rates... Nintendo would be wanting to set same profit levels roughly in UK, EU, US and Japan. Brexit would not have changed that... What Brexit did change is how much the pound buys us today.

You are changing it around now. The point is here is not whether the Switch is expensive everywhere or not. The point is, if our pound did not nose dive after brexit, the Switch and every other product traded in dollars like our graphics cards and other electrical goods would be cheaper. Simple really.

Case in point, the Xbox 360 Core was priced at $299 and £209.99 on release. If that will not convince you that the exchange rate really does matter, then nothing will.

And regarding exchange rates, I'd focus on the YEN rather than USD.

See that massive drop at the end of June? That's the Brexit vote.

Has recovered a bit in December but still not to what it was and the continuing uncertainty it likely to have the currency seesaw after every announcement.

The same thing happened with the Yen. I did not want to over complicate things for him and stuck with USD :)

All I am saying is, the current poor pound means most these foreign products cost us more now than pre brexit due to the weaker pound. As it was brexit that caused the pound to nose dive, it is simple to deduce then that brexit is partly responsible for the current prices we are seeing with the Switch IN THE UK. Not sure how anyone who knows what's what can argue otherwise.

What makes me laugh is, like one user a few days ago when this topic came up ended up seeing what I said and automatically thinks I am saying Brexit was a bad idea and it is Brexit to fault and we should have stayed in etc. When of course nowhere have I said anything like that. lol :)

Before Brexit £1 would get you approx. 156 Yen (if we're conservative) but £1 now only gets you 139, that's almost an 11% drop.

Nintendo don't want to suck it up so is passed onto the consumer, plus the usual RIP off Britain pricing we always get.

Maybe if the Switch had launched last summer or we had voted to stay in we'd be paying approx £250 for the machine, but that's all guess work and we'll never know.

We have seen the games dropping from the RRP Nintendo announced so I think it's highly likely GAME etc. will reduce the price soon after launch but if the pre-orders have sold out at the current price as a retailer you'd have to be an idiot to reduce the price.

I'm not sure what you're complaining about, you're paying more as a sacrifice to live in a better country. Sounds good to me.

lol. This was the guy I mentioned in the post above. Just wants to see what he wants to see, putting words into my mouth

Where did I complain? I simply responded to people who are saying Brexit had no effect on price. This is false. Simple as that.

I'm not complaining, I think it's fairly priced, I paid more than the cost of a Switch for an 8" tablet which won't let me play Zelda on the toilet... that alone is worth it.

From Nintendo/IGN:

- Both launch on the same day, March 3.
- Both have a frame rate of 30fps.
- Both versions of the game offer the same content.
- On a TV, the Nintendo Switch version of the game renders in 900p while the Wii U version renders in 720p.
- The Nintendo Switch version has higher-quality environmental sounds. As a result, the sound of steps, water, grass, etc. are more realistic and enhance the game’s Open-Air feel.
- The physical copy of the Wii U version will require 3GB of available memory on the Wii U system or an external drive.
- Some icons, such as onscreen buttons, differ between the two versions.
- A Special Edition and Master Edition of the Wii U version are not available

Also - Nintendo Switch won't have Netflix at launch or many other multimedia apps/

As suspected, anyone hoping this will replace your tablet will be let down.

Thanks for that info mate. I knew I was making the right choice when I sold my Wii U last year :D

Shame about not having any tablet features though. Would have liked a browser on it like the Wii U, but a better version. That said, it may come later. The article said it won't have it on launch, never ruled it out full stop.

ffs... i've been toying with the idea of selling my iPad Mini 4 to justify buying this, but if it can't do video that's the end of that idea. I was hoping it may well be a tablet replacement, obviously not.

TBH I'm glad it's not trying to be a replacement for tablets.

I'm not changing anything around, all i stated was that the console is too expensive and then you came in and starting talking about Brexit. The console being too expensive everywhere in the world is not Brexit related, so I'm not sure why you mentioned it in the first place.

EDIT: It was actually somebody else that mentioned Brexit first, basically derailed the discussion with that.

Same, we have about 20 devices in the house that can access Netflix or iPlayer, don't really need yet another one.

no one would force you to use it though...Many, like myself, have one tablet...I could have sold it for this but without multimedia its a massive no no.

It surely cant be that hard to add these things on ?

But you are changing it. You said and I quote "And yeah the price has nothing to do with brexit at all, just Nintendo's pricing!". So I replied to you, this is false. Simple as that. If you and the other guy did not say it, I would not have had to reply to correct you would I?

So you're being pedantic, got it.

Do you agree the the excessive price of the console in every country it is releasing has absolutely nothing to do with Brexit?

No Netflix at launch doesn't mean no Netflix at all. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
