*** Nintendo Switch ***

Switch will do well, people are quick to shoot it down because its doing something different. Apart from the graphics race, what are Sony and Microsoft doing? Nothing much exciting has been going on in the gaming world. PS4 Pro and PSVR has gone quiet. Time for Nintendo to shine.

I don't wish to shoot it down. Agreed, Sony and MS aren't doing much either. It's a sign that things have peaked. Video game crash anyone?

I just wouldn't bank on there being a huge market for portable gaming on a tablet sized device. There are lots of ways people can do this already, and has been for years and is in no way a sign of innovation on Nintendo's part. If lots of people want to play Mario and Zelda on a tablet sized device, then sure, the Switch will be successful. I personally don't feel there is a large enough market, but admit that a select few will enjoy the console.

Yeah it's not like Sony have one of the fastest selling consoles of all time..

Oh wait they do!

Please show me these devices or are you talking about playing 15+ year old games on a tablet/phone as being comparable to the Switch?

You aren't convinced, we get it. I know I'll use it so I've bought it. I know it'll be a great compliment to my gaming setup.

The world is your oyster. There are loads of game controllers that attach to all sizes of phones and tablets with a big range of games available within the app stores. There's game devices like the JXD s7800. None of these things took off in a big way simply because there is no mainstream market. The Switch is actually more crippled than any of these solutions because it will operate a proprietary OS stuck in Nintendo's expensive ecosystem.

So we are talking about playing crap ports of old games on a tablet/phone vs playing brand new 2017 released AAA titles designed for a specific controller on a specific piece of hardware.

No competition I'm afraid. If you're happy with Angry Birds and GTA 3 then good for you.

Show me a game out there that looks better than Zelda on a hand held device ? I'm curious.

"Looks better than" is rather questionable and subjective. Your question should rather be "Show me another portable tablet sized device out there that plays Zelda", in which case there aren't any, unless you're talking about emulation, and in which case the Switch is likely a great device for that niche market regardless.

I'm not really sure what you're getting at? A "brand new 2017 released AAA title" actually sounds like a very hyped up statement with no depth. I can think of plenty of such titles that get boring after the first 5 minutes of gameplay.

Don't get fastest selling console confused with most sold, Nintendo still holds that crown.

IPhone's are the fastest selling but they are no longer the smartphone market leader worldwide.

This is my take on it as well.

I see the Switch as a complimentary console to the PS4 and One, I wouldn't have bought it had it been my only console because of my concern over 3rd party AAA titles.

It offers Nintendo games, a back catalogue and portability, yes the price is higher than I would've liked but it is what it is.

So I've settled on the following for day 1..

Grey switch
128gb Toshiba U3 card
hori hard case
Hori screen protector premium
Hori stand
Pro controller
MARIO kart pre order
Zelda

For MARIO kart launch gonna get a second switch for my girlfriend which will be good as I can have docks in two locations.

Will monitor the situation as well with controllers. If no Wii U pro support (for Mk purely!), will buy another pro controller to give effectively 4 player for our "dinner parties"

Days booked off too!

High Rolla!!! Yeah! I might buy a second dock for the bedroom but will see how I get on with the handheld.

The biggest problem the Switch has is Nintendo are ultimately trying to bring a home console experience to a portable device, but banking on their "killer 1st party" Zelda and Mario IP to make it successful. Sony tried the home console experience through their PSP and Vita consoles and both are/were never popular. Not sure that being able to play Mario and Zelda with a "console experience" whilst portable will make any difference TBH. I'm sure there are small groups of people though who will be delighted to play Zelda on their Switch through their 55" TV at home one minute before heading out to McDonalds and continuing their game whilst scoffing cheeseburgers.

Or that I can play it on the big screen, grab the switch and pop on a 10 hour flight with full home console games in my pocket? The VITA lacked from good games, and to play console games you had to stream them from your home console. It required two consoles, not just the one. This is a different idea.

Not like Nintendo have the highest selling handheld, ever. O wait they do.

What size SD card is everyone going to get to supplement the Switch? 64/128?
