*** Nintendo Switch ***

When it comes to Nintendo, I don't think they'll ever give a damn about building a power house console. I think they'd sooner pull out of the console business than build a monster gaming machine.

But who cares as long as the games run well and look moderately good on a 4K tv.

Word on the grapevine is they may bring out a secondary dock (which gives extra processing power) to allow 4K output. All speculation of course this may not actually be true. Remember they did a similar thing with the N64 and the expansion pack ?

Edit. I realise the expansion pack was only for certain games such as perfect dark etc. But it shows that Nintendo do have tricks up their sleeve !

Goes further back than that with the SuperFX on the Snes.

From what I remember about 3 games needed the expansion kit but over 50 benefitted from it. A significant number.

I was going to just grab Zelda on the day, proberly as a download, but I have a feeling it will be up for £59.99, and don't realy want a digital copy now.
Looks like Amazon have sold out, don't know who else to go with for pre-orders, is the game likely to be as rare as the console on the 3rd? I'm used to Steam, I don't know who is reliable in the console game pre-order fold.
Just risk it and try Argos on the day?

I did wonder about the availability of popular cartridge games on release as they presumably aren't as easy to mass manufacture as blu-ray discs. It's been a while since I've owned a cartridge/card based Nintendo console though supply shortages of new games were quite common in the days of the SNES and n64. Have there been similar issues with 3DS games or is the media so easy to bulk produce these days that it isn't an issue?

I guess digital versions are at least an option now if you find yourself unable to track down a popular game at launch. I'd be more inclined to buy the physical copy though as it's likely to be cheaper and it means you have the option to sell it on in future.

I'd be inclined to say that cartridges are easier to produce.

Just a guess though!

I remember buying Turok 2 and the expansion pack from Blockbuster, cost me like £70 :p (or was it £80? Can't remember).

I always go for the cheaper option, if its physical or digital. I doubt the Switch version of Zelda will be hard to find. As for the Wii U version. You can guarantee that will be hard to find. It now costs more than the Switch version to preorder in some places.

Plenty of places you can still preorder the Switch version from like The GameCollection, Shopto, Tesco, 365 games.

I might go with the cartridges this time as I am sure they will be faster than using a sd card with digital downloads ^_^ looking forward to Zelda popping up on my tv!

Have now pre-ordered (Zelda) with ShopTo after checking they still had release day stock, Guess I should pay for the Switch soon :( Never managed to complete a Zelda game, I'm one of those blasphemous people who keep calling him Zelda instead of Link.
Sorry Nintendo, I was a SEGA child.

Still don't really trust Nintendo when it comes to digital, will wait until launch and we have more concrete information on how downloads are tied to your account rather than the console before I bite.

Will be interesting to see if Digital Foundry or someone compare internal storage vs SD cards vs cartridge - personally think it'll be next to no difference unless you're using a totally rubbish SD card.

I pre-ordered the Wii U version in case I changed my mind on the Switch for some reason, with the Prime discount I can get it for £38... lot better than it seems to be going for now, GAME want £60!

I'll be going cartridge only, apart from VC obviously.

I have zero desire for multiplayer on the Switch, so resale is important to me.

Only game I usually keep for multiplayer is always Mario Kart. Usually end up keeping a Mario World game for a long time too.

I can see myself holding on to Zelda until the end of the year unless by the time I complete I have the feeling I am done with the game. The 2nd DLC pack for it could be good.

Game still don't know what they are charging for the games yet by all accounts. So it could be a case of it being cheaper on the day.

Can see why they announced the DLC now, am sure Nintendo are hoping less people trade it in after completing it over the next month which in turn boosts full price sales if less second hand options around.
