*** Nintendo Switch ***

Received my grey Switch and Zelda on Friday.

Things I like:

Zelda is great. Really great. Moreover, graphically it's very impressive (and I'm a long time PC gamer and thus used to fancy visuals). I've not suffered from many drops in frame rates.
The hardware looks and feels much higher quality than I anticipated. My nephew has a 'new' 3DS XL and I was worried it would feel akin to that. However it's much more grown up in its appearance and ergonomics.
I love that you can take it out of standby mode and be back gaming in 2 seconds. Very convenient.
The TV docking capability is anything but a gimmick. I'll be surprised if Sony don't follow suite before too long.

What I don't like:

The price of the games. With the exception of Zelda which, despite the lack of voice acting, is a bona fide AAA title, the rest of the physical media lineup are simply not worth the money.
I know the online service hasn't been properly rolled out yet, but I'd wager it'll be rubbish and lacking in standard features. I've added a few of my infantilised idiot mates who also bought Switches on release day to my friends list, and I can't even send them a simple text message. Also, where are the achievements/trophies/etc?
Where is the virtual console? No release date, nothing... It was a big selling point for me and I almost cancelled my pre-order when I read it wasn't available at launch.
With the exception of Super Mario Odyssey, it doesn't appear as if Nintendo are devoting enough development resources in to new software. You'd be forgiven for thinking that a lot is riding on the machine's success and let's not forget they're a pretty massive company. One can only hope that they're working on titles that they've yet to announce or at least courting 2nd party developers.

This seems to be the most truthful review I could find:

He kind of slates it the majority of the time, especially the ergonomics, but there are some positives. I'm still on the fence.

I can tell you my review. If you have £320 spare which wont break the bank. You like Nintendo games such Zelda, Mario etc. Not dark violent textured games such as Gears of War, Call of Duty, Last of Us, Uncharted. Then get it now.

If you have more important things to spend £320 on, such as kids, holidays, maybe that car repair or roof leak then wait till Christmas or when you have more disposable income.

Yep this guy has summed up the concerns I suspected pretty succinctly. Had an ex SMS me yesterday (we are on good terms) bragging that she had got a launch day Switch and that BOTW was superb and she was still the best yada yada yada. It's definitely the games which will swing it but for now I think I'll pass and see what, if any, improvements are introduced with the 2nd gen.

I have been looking into extra chargers as i want a couple more so didnt want to pay the Nintendo price but at the end of it there isn't many that are cheaper and those that are have the cable sticking straight out so look a right mess plugged in the wall.

The wording thing is that nearly all USB C chargers are not powerful enough and lots are actually dangerous - Aukey being a very well reviewed brand on Amazon got a terrible review on a site with tests showing it could actually damage devices plugged into it :o

What chargers that can provide the right voltage/amps and have been tested to be safe do you recommend?

I haven't looked because I haven't purchased a Switch. However I trust others when they say about the scarcity of the right spec.

Wow! So cool just exploring Hyrule in bed. One problem, my hands are not accustomed to it and it can ache after an hour or so.

guys am i being dumb when it comes to docking.

got my switch charged up.. hdmi cable in the back of the cradle and into my pc monitor and i dock the switch and see nothing on my monitor... switch screen seems to still be on in the dock.

You need the power plugged into a wall socket too.

I'm usually quite particular about these things but... I've got no issues with the button placement or ergonomics. Zelda uses every button on the console and I've not found it difficult.

Try the something like this

This is a truly dense post so apologies, but I presume you need a USB to USB-C thing to attach that to the console?

Just tried playing in the car and wouldn't recommend it.... Vom!

I've just realised why gyros might work differently for people - if your playing in mobile mode the gyros are quite far apart so slighter movements might register bigger movements on the screen. My gyro bow aiming is very responsible in portable mode - much better than the joysticks.

Purchased a pro controller from Asda but think that was probably unnecessary....

working now.. actually only seemed to come on without the power cable in and plugged it in after

Wifi performance seems pretty slow on this thing.. taking ages to download 800mb..

Is £59.99 for the pro controller the lowest it's readily available for on the highstreet? That's a few quid less than Amazon at the moment and am tempted for the longer Zelda sessions!
