*** Nintendo Switch ***

Can you turn off the annoying motion controls?

You need to get used to them. They area a thousand times better than using analog sticks.

So after an hour of playing, the game is identical to the previous Splatoon on the Wii U. I'll be getting it and smashing the non-motion players to pieces all over again :D

Test fires over the weekend:

Saturday, March 25
03:00 to 03:59 GMT
11:00 to 11:59 GMT
19:00 to 19:59 GMT

Sunday, March 26 (change your clocks to BST!)
04:00 to 04:59 BST
12:00 to 12:59 BST

You can turn them off, as I noticed as the server turned off :p

I take it, it takes a while to get used to? Why is it better? More precision, much like a mouse?

I caved in and got myself a switch but i can't sign into the shop i am getting Error Code: 2124-5002..... any ideas occur save me!

I played most of the test fires on the original, and played most of the hour of this one, both times I've tried to get used to the motion controls but I find that I end up holding the Switch at arms length and at odd angles, I just don't like it. I did feel this handled and played the exact same as the original. Which probably isn't a bad thing for fans. For me, with regret, I'm out.

There is no auto aim in Splatoon unlike CoD and other console FPS games as the motion controls are almost as good as a mouse once you get used to it. This means you really suffer when using just the analog stick as you are effectively playing against mice-level players without any auto aim to help you.

Yes I agree they're jarring at first but get past the initial frustration and you will soon be wishing all console FPS used the same control scheme.

The trick is to use the stick for big motions (anything over 45 degrees) and the motion for the finer precision after you turn. I also press y a lot to reset the motion controls to neutral which helps a lot with orientation.

So a lot like Zelda with using the stick to aim mostly, and then motion control for the precision? It makes so much sense on with arrows.

Exactly, but annoyingly you cannot use the stick at all to move in the y-axis. This takes a little getting used to and requires regular use of pressing y throughout the game to reset your horizon.

I just can't abide them and don't see how they are any better?

What is the switch then? Is it Nintendos next gen system or more like a portable wiiu? Havent had a nintendo system since i got a wii on release.

Google, and opening post can answer your comments.

But it's their next gen console. But also a hybrid. Think slightly better Wii U graphics, on a handheld that also docks to your TV.

That's annoying. Zelda nails it with the bow and arrows. I use it without thinking about it from the get go. It was similar on WW HD, but BOTW has done it a lot better.

Splatoon was fun tonight. Looks fantastic in handheld mode and also great docked on a 55" TV.

As a first time player of Splatoon, it's going to take a little longer than tonight's session to get to grips with the controls.

It was nice to be able to play something other than Zelda (as great as it is).

Yeah I struggled with the whole control mechanism tbh.

I'd like to get into Splatoon but fear everyone that's already played it on the U and are familiar with the controls already have a considerable advantage.
