*** Nintendo Switch ***

My thoughts on shovel knight, after getting to halfway through what I assume is the penultimate level of the first campaign with all the weapons / upgrades. It's starting to get a little tricky - a few audiable "fuuu"s have escaped my mouth!

It is good and if you like retro you'll dig it (hurrrr) but as I mentioned no matter how many levels there are it's tough to feel like there is value when the gameplay is relatively shallow compared to a modern game. Perhaps the game is about to prove me wrong but I do sort of wish that there was more or an incentive to use different weapons more frequently - there are perhaps 3 that I use / spam all the time.

Maybe the newest campaign will have rebalanced things slightly :)

These newfangled 2D titles don't appeal to me in the slightest.

I really hope the Switch doesn't become convoluted with 2D indie titles like Steam on the PC! If I want to play retro games, I'll use the virtual console.

SNIP
It has so much potential, but Nintendo can be stubborn and known for doing what they want and not what their fans are asking for.

Nintendo can be a frustrating company but if they followed what everyone else said/thought we wouldn't be where we are now, we'd simply have another massive CoD/FIFA box sitting under everyone's TVs fighting for the same market share.

Plus they are just bloody nuts sometimes, which you have to love, I have the bongo add-on for the GameCube, I mean who would sign that off? Maybe the same person at Sega who approved the fishing add-on for Dreamcast (which I also own) :)

They have a few duds now and then but they managed to reinvent the open-world genre overnight, sometimes it's better to just let them get on with it.

Yeh I managed to bag one of the 4 that popped up last night. Then realised I wasn't sure if I even really wanted then thing. Was thinking of going ahead and getting it to sell on but I figured best to cancel, and let someone who wants the thing have it.

Will hang out until im sure I want one. More games needed before I pick one up.

I am in a similar boat (that and where I need to order it from for discount is always out of stock anyway). My grand plan is to look to get an order in before E3, if E3 goes well it will confirm my purchase as I know more of what is coming. If it goes badly I could always return it.

If E3 goes well I get the feeling the machine will be even harder to get than it is now, hence sneaking an order prior

Has anyone found a decent pre-order for MK8 Deluxe? I was hoping for maybe some goodies, but the only pre order bonus I can find is on nintendo.co.uk which is a mug, but £50.

Always pre order early on Amazon:

With their price promise you always get a great price in the end.

If these 2D titles are all of the same quality as Shovel Knight I welcome them.

One of the major selling points of the Switch is to play console quality games on the go, such as Mario Kart, Zelda etc.
Why drop nearly £400 on a console to play games that you could otherwise play on a 3DS, mobile or tablet?
I appreciate that there's a drought after Zelda, so these games largely serve as filler, but I hope that's not the direction Nintendo are aiming for in the long-term.

Because I don't have a 3DS, have no interest in playing on my mobile and I don't own a tablet.

Having these 2D games, alongside the big players like Zelda is no bad thing.

Wow, nice. Best price I can find is £42 at the moment. Hoping it'll come down, but I fear that's wishful thinking.

£42 isn't a bad price though really, especially as I never played the game on the WiiU.

Obviously I don't want indie titles abolished from the system, but I hope the platform doesn't become awash with them like Steam.
I just want decent AAA games and third party support for my expensive console Switch! :p

Yeah I get you, I want to see these indie games AND the big ones. We all want lots of good games.

It's coming. Square Enix have announced they're bringing as much to Switch as possible with dedicated titles for it. Other devs are jumping on board. The console is selling like hot cakes still. Plus big titles from Nintendo are on the way. 18 days until MK8D people!

It's all coming together :D

E3 around the corner and Nintendo have gone out and out and said they're having a "big" one

Lets see eh!

Yeah still mega early days. It only came out, what, 4 weeks last Friday? Some of the indie stuff has been a great accompaniment to Zelda for me - stuff that I can just play in the car or when I am just waiting somewhere. Shovel Knight, Fast RMX, Snake Pass and GEM I am enjoying them all (except RMX which I've not really touched).

I've got 4 flights booked in April/May then another 2 in June. Looking forward to it!

Which is code for "All of our over priced mobile/console ports we are going to dump on the Switch too with one or 2 new games"
