*** Nintendo Switch ***

All I want is a new Metroid Prime game. Announce that and i'll buy a Switch instantly.

In the mean time I aim to replay the original for the GC and the sequels. But yes a new MP game would be incredible. I would officially, lose my **** over that one :D

Been doing that over Christmas, finished off Prime (still in my top 10 games ever made), just started on Echoes.

Primes soundtrack is just so damn amazing.

But seriously Nintendo, give us a good Metroid game again, it's been almost 10 years since Corruption came out, we're due one!

The back tracking really ****** me off in the end. It really spoilt the game for me.

I completed it but it put me off even trying the sequels.

Metroid is all about backtracking with new weapons to open new paths, reaching areas you couldn't get to previously.

You should try the sequels though, Echoes has a great light/dark mechanic and is much tougher than Prime. Corruption is much more action packed and is a great refinement and conclusion to the previous two games.

Did you ever play super metroid? Man that was equally annoying with the backtracking.

I think backtracking these days is generally considered an annoyance when so many games manage perfectly well without it.

Mechanic from a bygone era when they didn't have the memory to make sprawling open world maps and had to find ways to reuse previous areas.

I personally don't mind it, a modern game that used the Metroidvania style of gameplay well was Batman Arkham Asylum.

Backtracking mostly got replaced by silly fetch quests. Final Fantasy 15 and Lighting Returns is a perfect example

Some new info from a YouTuber and LKD

After spilling the beans on Ubisoft’s apparent plans to bring the next Assassin’s Creed to Switch earlier this week, YouTube user OBE1plays spoke with reliable leaker Laura Kate Dale during a stream yesterday. Dale was more than willing to answer questions about the system. Here’s a roundup of information shared, as collected by Nintendo Life:

There’s a record button on the left Joy-Con.

There will be no friend codes, DeNA is helping Nintendo with the networking.

The leak from Reddit user ‘Genos’ is fake.

Laura was asked if there was the possibility of Red Dead Redemption 2 or Overwatch coming to the Switch. Regarding Red Dead, she stated that there’s almost no way it’s going to happen due to Rockstar’s relationship with Nintendo. She assures that Overwatch wouldn’t be there at launch, and the two stated that it would require a massively overhauled port due to the ‘always-online’ nature of the title.

Don’t expect a delay for the Nintendo Switch.

Laura was asked about voice-chat, before she was going to answer she asked if she could say anything due to OBE1 releasing a video detailing it out soon. This basically confirmed the fact that it’s going to be included, smooth move guys.

The system will have Bluetooth, not sure to what extent.

The Joy-Cons will be available to be purchased separately at launch date. Docks will be purchasable after 6 months and will be ‘cheap’.

There won’t be a bundle that includes the Pro Controller, they will be purchaseable seperately.

The battery will last around 3 hours with everything at maximum.

The charging port is USB and will easily and quickly charge the system.

Only expect three virtual console Gamecube games at launch, they will be optimized for their original resolutions.

At launch there will only be one color of the Switch, and it will be the default grey. However, there’s a slight chance that there will be multiple colors after launch.

The right Joy-Con has an IR pointer akin to the Wiimote, this will allow touch-screen functionalities while docked.

The entry bundle for the switch will have 32GB of onboard storage, Micro SD card support will extend to 128 GB.

When asked about Mass Effect Andromeda, she brought up the point that Mass Effect 3 sold horrendously on Wii U and that there are no plans to release the title.

how the **** does someone having a video discussing voice chat confirm voice chat? maybe he is going to talk about how it's probably not a thing.

well... that was expected..

Im always dubious of stuff like this. Half of it always ends up being rubbish although LKD does tend to be on the ball pretty much.

3hrs play time with everything at max seems reasonable. Most peoples journeys both to/from work is less than that. Plus can charge at work as well. Also it might be 3hrs if the dev decides to run it at full wack and not the downclocked speed.

Still, lots of salt. Official announcement is 2 weeks today. Lets see!

I'd imagine it will have voice chat, but maybe party only?

I think its pretty much certain its USB-C, With fast charge these days 3 hours is deffo not a bad thing.

When do devices actually run for their advertised time though? 3 hours is poor imo.

I get advertised battery times out of my rMBP all the time?

Although you do have a point. 3hrs isn't poor to me. Given it's power and exactly what it is.

Hit the nail on the head there. Products very rarely run for their 'Advertised' time. This isn't the advertised time. This is word of mouth, so I'd guess from the people in the know. Full whack 3 hours, downclocked...5? Advertised later on as having '6 hours OTG battery life' (just a guess). This is in the hands of the developer,it could have an up to of 8 hours(used as an actual tablet web browsing?)

To be fair, whilst running games the battery life of most phones/tablets will only be in the region of 2-3 hours. Given the Switch is basically the same tech I never really expected it to last much more than 3-4 (assuming a larger battery than your typical phone and some optimisation) whilst playing intensive 3D games like Zelda. But as others have said personally I'm OK with that if it has quick charge support.

The 3DS is stated as 3-5 hours so it's probably a safe bet they'll aim for a similar figure with the switch. I'd obviously rather it last longer but I think anyone expecting more will be disappointed.

If anything I'm more concerned at the rumours of the battery not being user-replaceable than the run time itself.

3 hours is a bit grim tbh, I wonder if users can select to not run at maximum.

If i'm playing the switch not docked it will be for travelling, and 3 hours is not enough for that. I'd expect it to be able to do a cross continent flight, so would expect 5 hours from the thing.
