*** Nintendo Switch ***

That is utterly ridiculous. So this means that the Switch headphone port is only for audio out? Then the application and smartphone deal with the voice comms? Or does the Switch have the hardware for both audio in and out through that port?

I am so glad I sold my Switch a month ago, I'll stick to emulators for old games instead of buying rehashed version for £16 a pop.

Voice chat through a smartphone app. Always been the case and they dont seem to want to budge on it.

I don't see the need for putting game audio through your headphones unless you're on the move. For which the above contraception I can see makes sense (I am not defending it in the slightest, I think it's **** for the record)

So I wonder if when using the app you need to have it connected to the Switch at all.

Hmmmm.

The audio jack on the Switch does actually support microphone.

Games could in theory utilise it for their own in-game voice chat systems - kinda like how Black Ops II, Smash, MK8 etc did on the Wii U.

Nintendo didn't want to have voice chat at the OS level on Switch, or put audio jacks on one of the Joy-Cons / Pro Controller. I can definitely see the challenges of implementing headset and voice chat support on the console given it's small hybrid form factor and all the stuff already packed into it.

So am I right in thinking that perhaps the "on the go" handheld online multiplayer/voice comms will be provided by the mobile phones data connection?

I've been playing my Son's Switch and Zelda is very good, the art style and direction is beautiful, even in handheld mode. It's just a shame the battery doesn't last more than 4-6 hours. I can't see me ever getting one though. Too expensive for the limited time I'd play at the moment.

Comments like this still make me chuckle.

Anyway, some more info about the Switch online service thats coming.

Thanks to questions sent to Nintendo from Famitsu, we now have a few more bits of information regarding Nintendo’s paid online service for Nintendo Switch. Nintendo is seemingly undecided about the sales schedule for the Virtual Console. They also point out that the Classic Game Selection is different to that of the potential Virtual Console offering. Check out some of the points below:

  • Details regarding online play for the Classic Game Selection will be shared later
  • The Classic Game Selection and Virtual Console are two different things
  • A title from the Classic Game Selection is software that adds new features to classic games
  • The sale schedule for Virtual Console for Switch is not yet decided
  • Switch owners will subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online for each account, not as a console
  • Service is charged per each Nintendo Account
  • Nintendo says to wait for future details on tying various Nintendo Accounts to a single Switch
  • Subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online service through the eShop
  • When it goes live, you’ll be able to join by using your balance on the eShop, with a credit card or a prepaid number
  • Nintendo will sell download cards in Japan.

Can anyone tell me if it's possible for me to play with a friend on MK against random people and not the CPU?

Yes you can split screen online on the same switch, or if you have two switch's he can join you online as well.

Oh sorry I meant I have an online friend in australia and we both want to play online together against others. Dont think it's possible.

How are people getting on with the Arms tests?
I wasn't too sure about the motion controls at first but getting used to them more now.

Enjoying the game but I think the full release will be more enjoyable so we can pick and focus on the modes you enjoy most - can take or leave many in the test fire, give me the 1 vs 1. :) The coop mode vs the head crab type thing is a nice change though. :)

Only played Arms in had held mode was good fun but takes some getting used to, going to try and give motion controls a go today maybe be a day one purchase for me.

In a bit if a love/hate feeling with Arms at the moment. The thing that concerns me is the longevity of it and how long the online play will be appealing (and how frustrating) when you're up against super twitch players.

I bought I Am Setsuna to take on holiday. Played it at the airport and on the plane and off and on today. I am really liking it especially the combat and story. Ok it's not the best JRPG ever and the price is a little steep but I'm enjoying it a lot.

Some new stuff coming up 8th June I noticed on the Nintendo site.

GoNNER and Shantae: Half-Genie Hero. Both seem decent.
