The data transfer is a permanent move from one switch to another. So for those who are having issues can buy another. Test it to make sure it's ok and then move data over.

It is indeed a start. It's pretty strict but they're very worried about piracy

It's not perfect for sure! But it's a start :) If you use your Switch but want to change it for whatever reason, this is now a viable option.

I do wonder...the storage inside a switch is modular. I do wonder if your Switch is dead and you bought another if you could just swap the storage over.

Even if you could, it's coded to only work on your console, just like how swapping memory cards with another console doesn't work.
 
Mine shall be here today. First thing I'll be doing is inspecting for dead pixels and then testing for common issues.
 
We need cloud saves and digital purchases attached to accounts not consoles. I am not that precious about saves because I rarely replay things and if I do I'll start from the beginning. But it is important to many people and it should be there. I know I can move my digital purchases but it all sounds like a bit of a chore. If my console dies and I buy another one I should just be able to login and get access to my purchased software. Pretty basic stuff.

I wonder if the paid service they talked about earlier in the year will include services like these eventually. I hope so.
 
Yeah I think this update is a step towards that. Its annoying at how secretive they are being with it and zero mention of the online service and expected features but fingers cross they will do what you mention. These days it should be like getting a new phone. Punch in your apple/google details and then the rest happens on its own.
 
While the data save update is not ideal it will finally let me sort this issue that Nintendo refuse to repair without losing all my saves, so for me it's a great update.

Nintendo are still **** though for the way they are handling my faulty console.

I see it as a good thing too and Maybe a stepping stone towards cloud saves or something
