I'm done , Nintendo is winning at life , dark souls, south park (super hype) and smash bros !! This is on top of an already strong library of games. Plus there's a chance of Diablo 3 coming out :D

Holy ****. Hat's off Nintendo! That end sequence I was not expecting at all. Was a disappointing Direct until the last 15 seconds.

Nicely played. :D

While the video was a nice surprise it was already known that smash bros would be out this year. It looks like is a deluxe edition rather than a new game though.

I want both South Park games to come out on the switch and not just the new one.

Really? Didn’t have a Deluxe underneath it like some of the other Wii U ports have done, plus that seemed to be BOTW Link in the clip. Would suggest a new game, but we’ll see.

I’m really pleased with that. Nice to see Crash making the jump over.

I’ll be picking up Kirby, Aces, Captain Toad, South Park and of course, SUPER SMASH BROS!

It wasn't known that Smash bros would release this year, only rumoured that it would be announced, I think most of us would have bet on it though.
Exciting end to the Direct for sure, at first I was thinking Splatoon1 port?, that's pointless! :D. I should have seen it coming.

Smash will be more than just a deluxe version I think, more of an iterative sequel, closer to what Splatoon2 was to Splatoon1. The rumour is that much of the WiiU/3DS content is being reworked, very likely to be some core mechanical changes made too.

Smash Wii U released in Nov 2014, and they've probably been working on this new version for at least 2 years in some capacity.

Splatoon 2 V3 and the expansion reveal was probably the next-most exciting news for me.

I've played Dark Souls, Hyrule Warriors, Captain Toad and Okami already. Also played the first South Park RPG game, it was great but don't think I'll ever get around to the sequel.

The smash bros information was leaked from a reliable source so if you followed that kind of news it was known.

I would have liked to have seen a pikmin game with some form of online vs mode in this direct.

Well Smash coming to Switch was always inevitible, the 2018 release was still a rumour though and not a full leak really - not a sure thing. Rumours from 'reliable sources' sometimes end up wrong, and more often details such as dates are wrong.

If you're referring to Emily Rogers leaks though, she certainly does have reliable sources, but is not always right.
I should be able to play as female link is BotW :p, and Beyond Good and Evil 2 is being developed exclusively for Switch (nope!). These rumours also came from Rogers 'reliable sources'.
Also, when is this new Pokémon Sun/Moon Switch version (Pokemon Stars) coming out?

Like Phate said I think they'll be saving their biggest new game announcements for E3 at this point.

As soon as the smash trailer started I muttered smash bros to myself ;)

I didn't play much of it on Wii U as it was an awful platform I just didn't enjoy using that console so I may be interested even if it is just a deluxe. I may try Hyrule too and crash for sure. As for South Park I wasn't keen on that one leading up to release and after it any friends that played it said it wasn't a touch on the first game so I didn't go for it. Either way it's nice to have more support on the system, wonder what they will try and charge for That!

It feels like the Switch was a bit of a surprise for Nintendo and over the past 6-8 months they have been scrambling to get their big IPs and games in development as a result.

Mario - always going to be a new one every few years
Zelda - was coming out on WiiU already
Mario Rabbids - not expected to be anything special at launch despite being awesome
Mario Kart - port
Splatoon 2 - much of the same as the first one and came out early so always planned
Smash Bros. - still don't know if its a port or new but supposedly 2018 release
Pokemon - Told us about it but thats literally it. They don't seem to have been developing it for any amount of time.
Metroid 4 - Same as above
Xenoblade Chronicles - No idea how popular these games are to be honest.

Those are the big triple A games I can think of excluding ports like Doom etc.

Out of those you can only realistically say that Mario, Splatoon 2 and Xenoblade were specifically for the Switch.

Thinking about it, its a bit of a miracle that they have produced such a popular console when most of the game catalogue revolves around indie games and ports. Just shows that a great piece of hardware and a great concept makes a huge difference.

Pretty good Direct for me. There's plenty there to be considering over the next 3-4 months to go with Dark Souls and Tropical Freeze. I hope we get a look at Metroid at E3 but I'm not holding my breath.

Wii U ports makes perfect sense because so many people missed out first time round. Not so great for people who already bought them but great for the rest of us.

Anyone who missed donkey Kong on the Wii u are in for a treat , I never completed it as it's hard as nails, so I'll be getting it again

Also looking forward to dark souls as I've never played any

The hybrid concept is truly brilliant. Being able to have a traditional console which you can take to bed with it is just amazing.
Yeah ok, it's not 4k HDR blah blah blah blah, but it's just really good fun.

I completed it and swore a lot. It's a shame it's not a double pack with both modern dk games in it.
