Nissan GTR Owners and Lovers Thread

I saw some amazing looking GTR around here the other day, no idea what spec it was or if it was a special edition but it had 600 plastered all over it and a private 600 number plate, sounded like God was bellowing from the heavens when he accelerated.

When are they looking to release a new model GTR?

Next years will have some upgrades, rumored 7 speed gearbox but I am not sure how true that is as it would mean a full redesign which ain't cheap. More likely a power boost to ~600hp stock and a few aero tweaks to keep it looking fresh.

R36 isn't due out for a few years, 2018, which would be 10 years after the R35 launched.

That will more than likely be a hybrid of some sort but I don't think Nissan will go chasing the likes of McLaren's 900hp P1.

Just for the people that haven't read the Manchester Meet thread, here's a snap that rG-tom took of my GTR and a few other members cars :)

It was boiling every time we got back in the cars! Perfect weather for the meet though, was a good afternoon out in the sticks.

Loving it so far! Not even had it 2 weeks but feel right at home inside of it, very similar to my 350z in seating position and where the controls are. Dropped by Middlehursts last week to check if the bellhousing was ok, said there was no play which is great.

Thinking of downpipes in September if I take the car down to Litchfields for it's service but depends if I want to track the car or not as I might fail the flyby db tests.

Ah yeah I saw your thread about the noise, mine did that from day 1 with 20 miles on it, just a thing with these cars they are very mechanical sounding :)

Downpipes are fun, really need injectors and intakes to go with them though to get the most out of the stock turbos.

What exhaust do you have?

GTC Titan Race 90mm + y-pipe. It's a Litchfield stage 4 so already has the intakes and injectors, just fancied a bit more noise once I get going as I had high flow cats on my 350z which opened up the sound over 3k.

Sounds like this at the minute

Yeah OK thats already a nuts exhaust, adding DPs will be mental. :D

When you go to Litchfield make sure they upgrade your EcuTek to the latest if it isn't already?

Lots of new features over the last few months!

Hope you can get to PowerStation for the next OcUK RR day.

Posted in another thread but as it's relevant to a GTR -

Worked out average mpg for first ~500 miles…

The in-car computer says 20mpg but with bigger injectors it's miscalculating the mpg. Wondering if it can be altered when I get the car remapped in September/October for the downpipes.

Some big bloke in a GTR pulled up three lanes away. He planted his foot under cut a couple of cars and was out of sight. They really do shift, I was gobsmacked.

Thought so JP, will check if EcuTek can do it but if Cobb can I'm sure EcuTek can!

Ordered some new tyres the other day, going MPSS 275/305. Don't need them yet but Michelin are doing a £50 fuel card for every pair ordered and the missus gets 10% off at ATS. I was going to order them from Camskill but noticed the 275s from ATS are XL load whereas Camskills aren't.

What do you have on it now?

I just love the latest version of the Dunlops, went out in a MPSS square setup and to me it felt like the tyres wanted to come off the rims when you start to push in the corners, all kind of squirmy with the weight of the car.
The general ride was better though, normal suspension mode felt like comfort and there was less tyre noise (not really a problem with your exhaust setup :p)

Won't going 275/305 make the car understeer? I thought that was more for getting some extra straight line grip out of the MPSS.
I find with the stock tyres that the 255 up front is more than enough front end grip, don't know about with MPSS though.

I am sure you will have done plenty of research, I know Litchfield absolutely love the MPSS on the GTR but I think that could have been after he failed to buy a container of the Dunlops when they wouldn't sell them to him as they have a deal with Nissan.

I also think quite a few people who switched from stock to MPSS did it when they were right at the end of the life of the old tyre so obviously going from a tyre thats down to the canvas to a new tyre will feel amazing.

Look forward to your impressions of them, get full geo and ARB adjustment as the softer non runflat sidewalls will effect that also.

Anyway, thats just my ramblings on the matter. I don't dare to post anything on GTROC about tyres, people go nuts.

Currently running Bridgestones (RE070) which I've found to be noisy, even with my exhaust ;) Mainly notice the tyre noise on the motorway as the exhaust doesn't make much of a noise around 2.5-3k, only on the rough surface though which there seems to be a lot of round here!

I think going 255 on the fronts with MPSS causes issues as at that size they don't have the same amount of grip as the OEM tyres, but going to 275/285 is where they perform better. My RFs aren't near the end of life so it will be good to see how they compare when I do put them on, it's mainly for comfort and noise, trackdays I'll probably try and get another set of wheels for R888s.

Can you remember what pressure you had your MPSS at? I know quite a lot of people say they can be squirmy if they're anything under 32-34psi.

Wasn't on my car, was an 09 that was up for sale locally. Pressures were quite high though, 38 rings a bell.

I haven't tried a car with the Bridgestones but from what I read they are not as good as Dunlops. Also just look on the forums for posts about R888 vs Dunlops on track, so many arguments about which is best with no real answers, just all subjective seat of the pants stuff from people like me that are average drivers at best!
From what I gather R888 don't like 4000lb cars and will give up after a few hot laps. Unless toyo have released some GTR specific ones.

I am sure the MPSS will be fine and should save you a good 800-1000 quid off the dealer fitted price for Dunlops.

MPSS should be amazing in the wet though compared to the Dunlops! Only downside to them in my opinion.

Got my car booked into Litchfield in a few weeks time, some nice little additions to the car which should improve the noise and ride quality, and a bit more power if that was ever needed :D

Downpipes
Suspension from MY11
New sub & amp, the Bose system is lacking a bit in the bass department
Sound deadening in the rear and boot
GFB BOVs

Also going to look into a silenced y-pipe so I can get on some trackdays, can't juse use the OEM one as it needs to me 90mm to match up with the GTC system though.
