No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

Or some people just have a different opinion?

Reviews are not about all coalescing into some 'objective truth'. They are inherently subjective and individual.

For the most part yeah I know where you're coming from but sometimes it's easy to predict when a game is gonna score full marks when realistically no game should ever score a 10/10.

Example would be Uncharted 4 and I seriously gained respect for some reviewers who had the balls to mark this one down despite some of the vile criticism they received from a few subhumans. Not played it myself but my brother has a PS4 and I've seen most of the game and to me it's a painfully average game with a big budget and pretty visuals (minus the horrendously ugly motion blur that smudges the entire screen). If this had been a game I was interested in and had I believed most of the hype I'd have bought without hesitation yet been left bitterly disappointed, and my brother wasn't impressed either.

I appreciate they all have opinions and I don't think I elaborated enough on my original point. What I'm getting at is that if I trusted the majority of the mainstream media I'd have been disappointed with quite a few highly rated titles over recent months, that being one of them. This is one reason I prefer to wait for user reviews first as they seem a little more unbiased (at least when it's not a platform exclusive). Maybe I'm just getting more cynical with age... :D

No, I dont think you're quite appreciating that these are just opinions.

You say Uncharted 4 is a good example, but it's exactly a good example of what I'm saying. Believe it or not, Uncharted 4 is highly praised by critics and average gamers alike. But ignoring that, just because YOU didn't like it doesn't make people who did wrong or just victims of the hype machine. Perhaps it's merely their opinion and you happen to have a different one? That's really all there is to it.

You seem to be working on the premise that there is a single correct answer for how good a game is and it just conveniently happens to be based on what you yourself enjoy. ;)

I get what you're saying about potentially missing out on games you'd like if you just follow reviews, but of course you shouldn't base your entire judgement on purchases on reviews. And user impressions aren't any more 'reliable', in my experience. In fact, I tend to see far more extremes with regular gamers. Especially those where something is either the best thing ever or the worst thing ever. I can name quite a few games that get regularly reamed by gamers that I quite liked.

There is never going to be a perfectly reliable way to know whether you'll like a game before you buy it, when it comes down to it. That's not the fault of reviewers, that's just because it's how opinions work.

Why not? Uncharted 4 is a 10/10 game to me, and I can think of a lot of games that deserve full marks. A 10/10 review score doesn't necessarily mean it's a flawless, perfect game that will appeal to everyone.

Of course its going to be delayed, the devs realised its a full price game with sweet f all content.

Way to much hype for what was always going to be a 20quid indie game.

It reeks of 'not enough game' and it always has. I don't think they know what it is apart from a very impressive sandbox.

I'm pleased that it looks like they're delaying because we may get a better game in the end, and it means I'm definitely now not buying on release.

If ever there was a 'wait and see' title this is it.

Ah and enter the experts who know exactly what the game consists of not having ever played it....

Yeah, I thought this thread had taken quite a turn at the delay announcement. Not sure if that is what triggered it but I'm still looking forward to the game either way.

I've no idea what to expect and I know I can also be a negative bugger at times but I'm retaining pretty high hopes for this. It might prove be the change of pace I need.

It's the usual frustration when the hype machine reaches it's peak and there's still no product. Love turns to hate as the stress of being all excited about a game gives way to exhaustion. We are going down the other side of the slope now.

I swear, marketing games early does as much harm as good when you turn your fans against you by hyping things far too soon.

Just imagine being an early backer for Duke Nukem Forever.....:o

Seems very shady to be delaying the game after how many thousands of $$$ in steam pre-orders.

Given how long the game has been in development by a small core team, they should have a better grasp on when their game is ready to ship.

Go and chat to some Star Citizen customers and then complain :)

To be fair if it is delayed it's only a couple of months*. In that couple of months I still won't have finished the Witcher 3 or get the fancy new PC I've been saving up for so I'll live.

*apparently.
