No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

Yea people still play it. If I had a penny for every time I have seen this comment on Youtube or Facebook I could retire early.

Player count aint huge but yes people still play the game. There's people still playing Commodore games and Atari Lynx's because THEY enjoy them.

I loved No Mans Sky. Played over 100 hours, even before it was updated with the new content. I haven't played it recently, but what would get be back into it would be VR support.

Those games don't get updated though because the player base is so small. They must have made a lot of money on this to keep them going!

Here it is guys. After the months and months of brilliant ARG, and the upcoming 24th July huge update - NEXT, Element 6 has just unlocked and we have the final piece of the puzzle.

NEXT now confirms the huge update that was speculated over this past year and looks brilliant. Command fleets, proper fleshed out multiplayer, base raiding, character models and customisation plus a huge graphical and audio update. Check out trailer just launched.

It all looks a bit underwhelming and half a$$ed no? never played NMS due to the massive negative feedback it got so I'm happy to be proven wrong.

Problem is the whole "everything is procedural" - unless you like running around for hours looking at variations of the same thing it quickly gets boring and so far any real consistent themes or stories have been very vague and not fleshed out at all.

Procedural can be good to add additional detail and filler content especially to give a sense of scale like this game does - but I for one don't find it satisfying as a substitute for real crafted content.

Underwhelming was the game at launch. It improved over the years but nothing to the extent of NEXT by the look of things. This could be the biggest gaming comeback in history, fair play to HG for taking the deserved stick, but devoting the last 2 years after the studio was flooded to make the game they wanted I say. It's getting closer, this now looks like the game we shoulda had at launch. Those graphics are massively improved, this is the biggest overhaul of a game I've ever seen.

Can't wait till the 24th July now. Internet is going absolutely crazy right now. Let's not forget it's in the top 10 biggest selling games on Steam alone, it's got a huge player base, maybe a lot of people will come back now and give it a go. Put your disappointment at launch behind and jump on it once again, it's going to be great.

It looks better, but the basic gameplay also looks like the same repetitive rubbish. I tried each update before this and they were as grindy as ever (if not more so), just with a few minor shinies.

You can tell that from the trailer??? come on...lol. When was the last time you played it, or even at all ;) I know you said you played it after each update, but did you really?

I see this typical response from disgruntled gamers that refuse to give the game or Hello Games continued support over a difficult 2 year period any credit, then just spout of misguided ill informed opinions. The game has changed massively since launch, even the last big update provided a very good game with so much more content added. As a player of the game, I can tell you from that trailer, I saw ZERO frames of any basic gameplay showing anything regarding repetitive rubbish. This trailer showed everything that was new and fresh.

love this....those new clouds and textures :)

I have played enough (too much actually) to recognise the same old gameplay with a few minor add ons. If you don’t believe me look on steam. The textures look great, but that doesn’t solve the repetitive gameplay. Neither does coop. Great, be bored, but now with friends.

I enjoyed my stint, but once I got to the centre of the galaxy and saw what happened I was left with a sour taste.

The base building is fun, but again is hollow in what is a lifeless universe. The rover addition, great until you realise it doesn’t get you far or add much. Procedural generation. Great until you realise how limited it is and how nothing persists in the universe.

I will try this, but I don’t hold out much hope.
