No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

So I'm 97% sure Survival mode = no relaxing planets. Even the Lush Beautiful Bountiful planets will come with frenzied Sentinels or Firestorms, even when it's tagged as good weather.
Other than the steam achievement, not really worth the ball ache, my mistake.

It should mention that in the description, other than just losing your inventory on death. It's not hard to stay alive, but constant mind numbing storms and feral Sentinels has gotten old.
In survival/permadeath mode, one or more of the following generally applies to every planet:
  • Extreme weather
  • Toxic atmosphere
  • Frequent storms
  • Aggressive sentinels
  • Aggressive wildlife
I've found that the nicer a planet looks, the more hostile it'll be so you're likely safer on the barren planets.

1440P all maxed out.
Vega 64 should be comfortable.

Needless to say @ 4k it makes them all cry.

Edit: A 1.7gb update just hit steam, thats a big one. Hopefully some nice performance tweaks.
Going to back up the save before launching though.

That update is just the one that was on experimental. It actually killed performance for some, me included. I still can't get above 17fps in the Discoveries menu. It's not even part of the world engine ffs! It shouldn't run at 17fps!

Strangely I think the discovery menu is part of the game world, I get 45fps there~ but tap D and go to Milestones etc it hits 80FPS, capped by fraps.
Strange performance is strange..

What I want is a fix for screen tearing, no matter what I do, I cannot get rid of it.

Re 1.57

Performance seems a fraction better for me in game although it's hard to tell. Slowdown every now and again for seemingly no reason is still apparent. The loading initially seems no quicker and now runs at sub 15 fps most of the time. GPU is used less than 10% making for a stutter like mess for minutes - didn't occur post patch but obviously doesn't impact gameplay at all. The clouds appear virtually no different to me at 1440p so the changes must be fairly minor.

Ok, so setting this to "Off" improves performance quite a bit for me. I was getting nearly 60fps in space, and 42-odd on planets. I wasn't ever getting that before. It did dip to below 30fps on the planet I'm on, but it was more manageable, so thanks for the suggestion :)

Its sort of improved things for me as well, getting higher fps than I was before, though it still dips down to around 20 every so often as it did before.

To be fair though it isn't just about how it looks visually - the terrain deformation and other features that impact the visuals will have a fairly big performance impact on both GPU and CPU despite the level of visuals involved.

Well i have sorted out my problem with what to do with damaged ships i have found and added to my fleet, they can be summoned near to a Trading post, and then you can jump in it quick so you switch ships, and then get back up to the trading post, and wait for ships to land, then i find one thats a close value and trade my broken ship for a working one, so now i have 3 working ships instead of 3 ships that would have taken me weeks to repair, it is also worth dismantling any tech you can before you trade them and get some parts out of it.

Totally different for me.

The game now runs a whole lot better, stutter has disappeared, and it just feels much smoother.

Solid locked 60fps, with no slowdown, which is nice.

Loads quicker as well, with reduced stutter effect whilst loading shaders (not a problem anyhow), so a happy bunny here.

For info, I have high and low threads set to 12 and 6.

Hmm, so I'm a bit confused as to how the main story line works. At some point it asked me if I wanted to explore freely or follow the story (or whatever it called it) and I chose the latter. I visited the monolith and found Polo at the anomaly and have been doing various things for him, but I got a bit bored of the system I was in and waiting for him to be ready for the next task so I warped to another system. Now I have a quest called 'the atlas path' which I didn't have before and under the objective it just says 'explore freely'. Have I somehow dropped the main story line? As far as I can work out this quest should start when you access an Atlas terminal, which I'm pretty sure I haven't done, though its confusing as a lot of articles say they are no longer relevant following the NEXT update.

Anyone know what I've done? On the plus side when I warped into the next system I got given a freighter after defending it from attack, which seems like a result!

Its easy enough to jump back into the main quests. click the relevant quest in the the log and if there's stuff to do for it in the system, you will get instructions of what to do. In the star map, you can press I think Q + E to bring up paths for the different main quests if you need to travel for it.

Ah thanks, as long as I can just hop back in then that's great. :)

This. Can't find anyone to hire since the update! I have a base with all terminals, but nobody working them...

To hire a scientist you need to travel to a Kovax system - that is where the scientist originate. Not sure if you could get a Kovax scientist from any other Space Station (SS) in another system, but I got mine from a SS within a Kovax one.

AS YoungBlood noted - you do also need the mission to be active.
