No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

Probably because Sony are backing this heavily now. Doesn't bother me at all - have just preordered on Steam. Cannot wait. Even if it is only what we have seen so far I will be happy (and I doubt it will be).

problem I have is 2 hours is never enough to make up my mind :(

Looking forward to this though, I'll wait for reviews but it looks like a perfect hangover game for me to replace cities:skylines.

I might pre order this tonight, its looking interesting. I don't get why people are saying there isn't a point to this game, i thought the aim was to get to the centre of the universe? Or have i got that part wrong?

They've said there is that as an end goal if you want to follow it...but you're free to head whereever you want. We don't really know very much. It'll be interesting to see how they've balanced the game, how long they expect it to take before the first player reaches the center.

Is it going to be like 30 hours gameplay, or will it take years. Kinda hope it's the latter :)

Thats what i thought, I like the fact they have kept this part quiet!

I remember watching an interview with Sean Murray, he said that getting to the centre of the galaxy isn't the end of the game, once you get there there is more to do, or it opens up another part of the game, or something like that. But he wouldn't elaborate further.

Theres a lot we don't know. The middle of the Universe looks like it will give you some answers, but to what questions we don't know.

Theres also portals on some planets that have not been explained. When you go through them you are somewhere else, but nobody knows where yet. Is it a different planet, is it the same planet but at a different point in time?

Obviously theres the possibility that nobody knows what these things are because they aren't anything and the dev's haven't written it yet :p

This is all a possibility, the good thing is its left to us to discover it all and when you look at it like that it makes a change for a game to do that!

Reviews are going to be very difficult to decypher for this. There will be lots of potential spoilers, as well as people complaining its not something it was never meant to be. Plus the usual over hyped fanboy blowing his load all over it regardless.

I'm not looking at any reviews or watching any streamers before I play, I want the exploration to be real. I've seen enough to pique my interest.

Day one reviews (from users) are either 'its's amazing, best game ever' or 'utter piece of trash, didn't live up to the hype.' I'd wait a few days or even a week so how people feel, giant bomb are my go to reviewers so I would like to see what they think of it first. I'm not sure how this is going to go to be honest, I'd like a good space exploration game but I'm also concerned at the seemingly lack of stuff to do. I hope it's good and lives up to the hype, no way I'm pre-ordering though, too much of a risk.

Think this is the first big triple AAA type game that can be pre-ordered on Steam cheaper than any of the key sites  ... something must be wrong :p

So in summary, no, proper MP will not be added as the game's core design simply doesn't allow it to happen.

this is only not possible if you want MP with many many players. MP with 2, maybe 3 players only would work. you'd have one user as the host user who generates the planet and acts like a server, and the other players then get the information from that player. you could have distance restrictions to reduce power requirements.

this would work similar to how Skyrim MP should be done.

People on here need to remember there is absolutely no MP in this game. it's a single player game. the only multiplayer part to it, if it can be called multiplayer, is the name of animals and such on a planet. if you do come across a planet another player has found and named, it will have some rubbish name and mean nothing other than a human some where once was some where on this planet too.

the number of planets in this game is used too much as a plus point. i've never heard anyone mention this for games like minecraft, but there are 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 possible worlds in minecraft, all proceduraly generated.

one thing that i would like to see in NMS if it's not in the game at release, perhaps added later, is mother ship expansion with crew that require management and the ability to walk around your mother ship. this would give something major to do in the game.

i assume the planets in NMS are going to be for the most part completely empty of civilisation. We're not expecting to find cities for instance, but empty planets with a little bit of life here and there.
