No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

In short people salty that their 'perfect game' is nothing more than minecraft in space with even less to do, and are seeking to find validity for years of hype.
One of his points is the smudge on the disk? ****ing please.....
oh and once again it wasn't an exploit, its in the game.

An unpatched game. There also seemed to be a lot to do from what he said initially, he just chose to skip a lot of it.

Let's not do the whole strawman fallacy please, no-one is ?salty? or claiming the game is 'perfect'

Pre-ordering is totally viable, you can get a full refund for any reason if you purchase via Steam - see spoiler -

You can request a refund for nearly any purchase on Steam—for any reason. Maybe your PC doesn't meet the hardware requirements; maybe you bought a game by mistake; maybe you played the title for an hour and just didn't like it.

It doesn't matter. Valve will, upon request via help.steampowered.com, issue a refund for any reason, if the request is made within fourteen days of purchase, and the title has been played for less than two hours. There are more details below, but even if you fall outside of the refund rules we’ve described, you can ask for a refund anyway and we’ll take a look.

You will be issued a full refund of your purchase within a week of approval. You will receive the refund in Steam Wallet funds or through the same payment method you used to make the purchase. If, for any reason, Steam is unable to issue a refund via your initial payment method, your Steam Wallet will be credited the full amount.

well just read a story that the guy who brought the expensive ebay copy has got to the center of the universe completing it in 30 hrs.

so pretty much what i thought. a week of playing then thanks for coming.:p
Disappointing. Really disappointing.

Reminds me of Skyrim. All that promise of the big open world and it turns out that somebody beat it in just over two hours. Sorry, but I'd like a bit more playtime out of a full priced game than just two hours.

I read into this as i was keen to be able to get a refund on arma 3 apex if my dad and i didn't enjoy the coop campaign.

As far as I'm aware, the refund before 2 hrs is not available in the eu. It even says you can get a refund as long as you haven't installed the game, when you buy it.

Am I missing something?

2 hours I got a 100 in and there was plenty more to do. Some did more.
I get the point though, but if your sole focus is the one end goal you will always finish a game faster. This translates to most getting 50+ I reckon

I know sarcasm doesn't translate well on the internet, but I just called Skyrim a two hour game.

Come on now.

So apart from just messing about flying from one planet to the other and seeing the wildlife and updating ur ship, what is there to do in the game. I mean is there npcs to talk to? Can you rpg it? Can you get quests off the npcs like go kill a creature for something or go get something off a neighbouring planet that the npc needs or something to make traveling useful instead of just for the sake of it.

As to me it sounds like this game is fly about and mess about then quit. If you want flying from space to a planet theres a game called Evochron Legacy. Also elite when it finally gets around to it and will look a lot nicer too.

Sounds like spore 2 most of the time i read about the game.

been looking forward to this since it was first announced back in the day. Hopefully it'll be a resounding success. I'll pick this up on launch day or just shortly after. if it's 30 hours then so be it, but 30 hours game time will take me at least 2 months of real time to complete and that's totally fine by me.

I think you're over simplifying... like in Doom you jump around and shoot stuff, then quit. In GTA V you run some people over, shoot them in the face, then quit. In Witcher 3, you swing your sword about, then quit. There is definitely more to NMS, as with any game. It's not Elite, far less of a grind and this clearly isn't trying to be a space sim... I don't think we really know what it is yet until it's out there in wild and people get stuck in, but there is a lore under the surface, there are things to discover and learn, and who knows what else... we'll just have to see how gripping it all really is and if it keeps people hooked. Personally I'm looking forward to it, but I have no idea if it's going to keep me coming back for more or not.

The more I look at this, the more I liken it to subnautica except that you have a whole galaxy to fly around in and do stuff with... It does appear to have a huge survival element to it.

I'll watch with intent as it looks interesting but I do need to see that it is not too shallow.

Are there that many games that you can't complete in 30 hours if you go for it?

I'd consider 30 hours a reasonable return on the purchase, but I plan on playing it a lot more casually and taking my time.

They may have done the same thing Elite Dangerous pre-release and that was to use a shrunk playable area for testing. Before release they may "re-seed" the procedural universe and make a far bigger one.

I agree, i tried selling this game to my brother in that same way (he loves subnautica)

Interesting read that, i'm looking forward to playing this. I haven't come accross any game thats grabbed me, i'm hoping this is it!

bottom line for a game like this is, some people like doing nothing and just mooching about and some people dont

thankfully I am one of those people who like to do nothing and this looks like I will enjoy doing nothing for many hours in this

I am surprised that there has been no press release regarding much of this information that has been leaked? To be honest it seems to have intrigued more people and has given them a lot more publicity.

Because they don't need it. I'm pretty sure just the pre-orders have covered development cost and then some so they have pretty much full creative freedom of how they want to present the game and that is "play it for yourself".

Hello Games did post on twitter suggest people shouldn't spoil themselves. I'm pretty sure all press is going to be silent until its out apart from the Playsation marketing machines rehashing current information and media over and over again until its out.
