No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

Spent last night playing No Man's Sky on my PlayStation 4 :), excellent, beautiful, wonderful game.

There will be more added to it, but the sheer scale and freedom is wonderful, similar feel to when you first play Minecraft and you have this enormous open world to explore.

Pre-ordered on Steam for myself and my brother!

Jim Sterling's write up pretty much 100% put me off this

Cached version because he got DDoSd.

People can say 'THIS GAME ISN'T FOR YOU, IT WASN'T MADE FOR YOU!!111! IT JUST ISN'T YOUR TYPE!' all they want, but there's literally no denying the fact that this is a colossal flop.

People will still praise it, predominantly those who preordered, that's how this game hype stuff usually works. Whether it's denial or trying to justify the purchase who knows.

I heard a good while ago that however slim the possibility, it was possible to meet other players online. And I understand it was slim given how fast the game was.

And I just read two streamers were in the same location but couldn't interact, nor see each other.
Which would either suggest the dev has lied about that. The game was experiencing problems of some sort. The game has been released with the intent to patch in some sort of MP in the future.
None good tbh, is it.

I don't have a problem with NMS. and hoping the dev hasn't deliberately mislead customers. The biggest gripe I have, is people still pay money well in advance for games they haven't even seen finished. Said it before in this thread - Pre ordering is pointless.

While some comments are clearly over the top and some trolling can you really not see that the game is getting valid criticism and concerns aimed at it?

exactly what?no MP? there is no concerns over game - its exactly like i imagined it will be,im sick of MP games and want exactly game like this-sit,relax,forget reality for a n hour and just play.

i praise this game as well, and im not preordered it,i simply i like what they did and what i see and im gonna play it

colossal flop? oh dear... :D

I'm relishing what I've seen so far! The game isn't perfect, but it's a technical marvel, and certainly has a lot more going for it than a yearly iteration of a generic shooter.

Roll on Friday! I'm stoked.

Jim doesn't like survival games, so his opinion on NMS is fair, just like yours. However it IS as simple as this game will be marmite. Some people like playing games where all you do is explorer / mine / craft etc. and others simply hate it. It bores them and it was obvious on Jims first impressions that he falls into the latter category.

Other people love playing CSGO / Battlefield for hours on end, which is just as repetitive IMO (same maps, guns , tactics etc).

Without complete reviewers result and / or sales results, you cannot brazenly say a game is a flop, that's just silly.

This is not me defending the game, as I've not played it yet. I hope I like it, but if I don't, it was my money to spend. I've wasted more on films I've hated over the years, and I got less than 3 hours a pop for those.

I've just being subjective on the matter.

Edit: As much as I may or may not agree with Jim, the DDOS was childish by the fanboys and was poor show.

I give up, seems you already made your mind up that it's faultless and best game ever!!!! Before even playing it.

Why is everyone declaring this as a flop 2 days before release?

Is it all because of one blokes review?

FWIW I know one bloke playing it on PS4 now who says its awesome, doesn't mean his one opinion is correct though....

I think it's worth mentioning that this might be the sort of game that doesn't do well when you rush through as much as possible in a few hours so that you can post your day one review. It's not really target driven gameplay, more like a loot and level adventure in a sandbox.

Yes but a good loot/adventure game requires good gameplay mechanics (like Terraria). Nothing I've seen/read so far indicates this game has that.

Like I said in my post at the top of the page. quote from that review by Jim Sterling

My disappointing experience with the dinosaur has come to exemplify No Man’s Sky‘s biggest problem – everything is so obviously faked, so unabashedly illusory. The universe is devoid of credible, tangible life. For as much as the game promises dynamic adventures, everything is scripted, static, held in place like cardboard cutouts in a fairground ride.

Sentient aliens met along the way are never found just wandering the land. They remain stood or sat in place like static quest givers in an MMO – without the quests. Every now and then, other starships land nearby, but nothing ever gets out of them. To interact with their pilots, you must interact with the ship, at which point a character model pops up and you can have a text-based conversation with a pop-up character model.

agnes, if you don't like the game then that's fine. I won't tolerate trolling in a thread where people wish to discuss it though. That goes for anyone else that wants to thrash the thread.

This is about the same line people use when watching crappy movies - they just want to switch off and let the experience pass over them with as little effort, involvement and stimulation as possible.

I, on the other hand, want to be immersed for the precious few hours i get towards gaming. I want great characters, a story that means something and an experience to remember - or something insanely replayable like Rocket League, which requires effort, skill and teamwork to succeed.
