Reading that isn't promising - if people want endless resource gathering to build stuff up they might as well invest their time in Eve Online - atleast it has other things to offer alongside the tedium.
The only thing Eve has over that really is PvP, which some players won't want. They'll want to do the solitary journey at their own pace without fear of being trolled / griefed.

And what's with all these 'reviews in progress'? Utter nonsense. Talk about suspicious. I get it for an online-only game, or one waiting for a player-base to come online etc but there's no excuse for something like this. It's predominately single player and yet they are unable to put in 30-40 hours and provide a proper review.

Thing is if you follow the PS4 thread, you know the one where people are actually PLAYING the game, the early impressions seem to be positive.
Cant wait till Friday, not watching any more streams now as ive seen enough to know ill enjoy it

That is one thing that unfortunately isn't easy to escape in Eve - I used to when I had nothing better to do run a little PVE setup out of Simela and was unmolested - most of my characters had atleast some kind of killboard record though (which tends to put off the more cowardly griefers) combined with sometimes engaging the inevitable gatecamp in Gonditsa for lols so they usually left me alone.
That's my point, I've done my fair share of grinding in Eve (mining, questing, exploration) and although there were times I found the chance of PVP exhilarating, because I'm not very good at it I was more often than not frustrated that x hours of exploration were wasted because I was ganked.
Even if NMS only grabs me for 10-20 hours, at least I'll be relaxed when I play and I know I can't be griefed. It's a big deal to me personally.

If youre in the UI for crafting etc, no. Pressing options on PS4 opens the atlas screen, where im not sure, but think it does. There is no actual pausd button though.

So what exactly makes your view on it any more correct than his?? Are you saying he can only enjoy it if it requires effort, skill etc
Review code was only released on Monday and you can;t expect reviewers to work (play) more than 10 hours a day. Be reasonable.
It's just like DOOM.

As has been mentioned a few times now, metacritic has been spammed by haters, I wouldn't pay the user reviews any attention at all.
Put in about 6 hours now. Loving it, exactly what I thought it was gonna be. Nice chilled survival/exploration game. Only scratched the surface so far, haven't tried fighting at all apart from once when I got jumped by pirates. Exploration mechanics are nice and varied compared to anything else I've played. Last planet I logged off on is an absolute beaut, will probably go for the fauna discover bonus on this one.
Solid 7.5/10 for me so far. Easily worth the money for the amount of game time I'll get out of it.

I love how most glossed over this. Even if it doesn't stay fun forever, initial impressions seem positive. Glad the mods have stepped in to stop the trolling based on nothing.

Nevermind, Rational thinking will prevail in the end, I'm going into this without any preconceptions, without any hopes of grandeur, just hoping to open it up on friday have a play and hope that it keeps me entertained and engaged.
