No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

This isnt the point. He said clearly on multiple occasions in the past that the game is indeed multiplayer. Yes, not a multiplayer "experience" - but you would at least be able to see other players. Right now, you cant. Why? Who knows; server issues, lying, or another multitude of unknown factors. Either way, a feature that was said to be present in the game isnt. These guys dont get a free pass just 'cause they're an indie game studio - they have (potentially) straight up lied about their product. I'd love to see this situation if it was your standard AAA dev pulling this, it would be another whole different story. But no, people are rushing to their aid to defend them even though they've intentionally been deceptive, tip-toed around the matter at hand and dodged direct questions.

I'm all for giving this game a shot on Fri, but I cant believe some people are actually putting up with this.

I'm happy about it being a single player, so not a problem for me. :)

Also you don't know they've been intentionally deceptive. Like you say it could be any of a number of reasons.

I have seen this advertised but not really looked into it until now, seems interesting and may consider it just not 100% sure at the moment. Hmmm

I'm happy with it just being single player too.

TBH I haven't spoken to anybody who is interested in it so far from a multiplayer aspect, everyone I know getting it wants it for the single player.

Too many asshats in multiplayer games these days. I'm expecting most of the planets to be named Cyka Blyat within hours anyway.

Psh, if it isn't exactly, word for word how they described it then it's deliberately deceptive and we should be sharpening our pitchforks!

Seriously I will be disappointed if he comes out and says that there is actually no multiplayer but I have a feeling it's just a bug or issue somewhere that will be ironed/patched out. I am happy with it just being a single player too, the disappointment would be purely because it was stated a lot that there is a possibility of interaction.

Not convinced guys. You know he meant for there to be multiplayer and you know he made those claims. If he also said there wasn't multiplayer (link please?) then why make both statements?

I bet that me and my friend can find each other before we die. I will come back and post a screenshot of me riding shotgun with Nick Cage in his popemobile, just to prove it. :)

What exactly do you think you were going to do once you had met up?

Has there been any discussion on what Multiplayer would entail?

Is there any communication settings in the game?

As far as I know there have been Zero communications from the devs on multiplayer content. Yes Murray said there would but no substance, no road map and no development.

I just don't understand how people can get upset when it has been clear for sometime that there is no multiplayer content or game play mechanics.... Murray should not have said there was and people should have worked out that it was not going to happen....

deceptive
dɪˈsɛptɪv/Submit
adjective
giving an appearance or impression different from the true one; misleading.

Good article on what was said.

Another article that suggests the extent of online features was scaled back or changed.

My expectations for meeting up? JUST SEEING THEM. Just like my expectations for the centre of the universe was just getting there. I don't own this game and am not upset. My friend was hyped and sold the idea of attempting this "impossible" feat, which would have been achieved within the first day, if the game was working as was suggested EXPLICITLY by the developer.

To make a tweet that there is no multiplayer and then another that says it's a "shared universe" (oh, how vauge), around your release date. Please.

I suspect any multiplayer was just put on the back burner when they rushed to finish the game. They already delayed the release a few times, and even pushed back a couple of months when there was a firm date.

Given what little Murray said, it seems that at best, "multiplayer" would have been nothing more than chatting to your friends in a lobby, with no actual gameplay together. I'm not sure that even counts as multiplayer, so who really cares if it's not there, beyond, "but he promised"?

The game is what it is. There seems little point in complaining about what the game isn't because there are lots of things the game isn't. It's the fault of the marketing that the game hasn't been conveyed very well, but I think that's all the part of the "discover the game yourself" that has been going round. If you pre-ordered without knowing what the game was and now have buyer's remorse, there's no one to blame but yourself.

Game looks ****. (not just appearance but the way devs have implemented things like physics, flight mechanics etc hard to really call this an actual space game imho)

Not trolling or anything but nowhere near a £40 game. Maybe £10 at most. very very casual game.

Game looks suited to the tablet/mobile market to be quite honest.

+collect lots of stuff
+pointlessly upgrade ship using said stuff. Pointless because just using upgrades to do the same thing again and again.
+"explore" massive cookie-cutter space with no depth at all.

Game shd have been an early access on steam amongst the hundreds of other survival cookie cutter types.

People will spend HOURS exploring and searching this game for depth and meaningful content..but i think they will be disappointed.

Just my 2 cents.

I made a sarcastic point about how the fact that one set of people one time on launch day couldn't see each other. Surely that HAS to be deliberate deception and not anything else right?

I then went on to say I would be disappointed IF he came out and said now that there is NO way of seeing others because that would make it deceptive and not any other potential issue.

I don't understand why you posted the definition of deceptive as a result of what I said but clearly you're unhappy with the game so just don't buy it.

I posted that because I am a **** and your sarcasm wasn't received as such.

I wasn't going buy this, it's not my kind of fun. I was then convinced by a friend that had been caught up in the hype train that there would be this cool impossible objective to attempt and that is my idea of fun, despite the type of game it is. Then within 24 hours we find out that meeting any player is not as unlikely as he kept suggesting. So it didn't turn out that way and now the one thing I would have bought this game for has lost its appear. I did not pre-order this and no longer want to purchase it, I am not unhappy either, because there are plenty of fun things I can also do to fill that time. For other players who are upset, probably because the game lacks a feature that would have made it a deeper experience for them.

As a developer myself I think it stinks that you misrepresent your game to it's potential audience. He had plenty of time before now to set player expectations, which he didn't do a great job of. Multiple people in this thread have said that this is above criticism or have called people imbeciles for believing what they've been led to believe and I think that is even more whack. You can say what you like but you know there wouldn't be so many people talking about it if it was a non-issue.

That is what interests me and has me here talking about it at all.

That's fine and no game is above criticism. But how do you know he has misrepresented it and it isn't just a network issue or a bug that will be patched? This is what I am waiting to see.

Sadly you're not wrong. If it didn't have Sony backing it and helping with the hype train it would have already been long forgotten.

I hope it turns out to be a brilliant game and who knows I may end up playing too but as it stands it looks like a game that will be collecting dust or uninstalled within a couple of days.

That's said if people enjoy it then I don't see th issue, we all like different things and we spend our money as we see fit.

If it was this I imagine that they would have just come out and said it.

He mentioned about server load being much higher than expected and it's amazing the game stayed online through twitter. Being that he seems to be an extremely cryptic person at the best of times, I don't think we would get a more straight answer than that.

Cryptic people make the worst bosses by the way.

I'm just tempted to see how much "stuff" can fit into 3.2gb(PS4)... I mean the actual universe started from nothing right? lol £40(with a refund policy) is definitely worth a gander.

It's a pretty good interview explaining how he wants people to get a sense of others, without direct interaction.
