No Man's Sky

Only thing putting me off this atm is the forced mining aspect. Is it really a case of having to mine to survive every 15 mins or so? I want the freedom to just explore...
It's really not that bad, just make sure you stock up on what you need before you go exploring, it doesn't take that long.

Just reading a polygon 'review in progress' on this game and I can now see why polygon get some of the stick they do.

The guy says in brackets something to the tune of (this review in progress is 100% based on my time played after the patch and not before, but, I did play before the patch abit but the review won't reflect this). Then upon reading the next few paragraphs I had to stop because you could tell that was basically a lie and the 'review in progress' was based on his before patch time.

He was going on about stuff that was pre patch like lack of inventory space and things like that. What's it coming to when even the reviewers can't be bothered to wait for a patch and do a genuine review lol.

I've not bought this game but won't be deciding by his review that's for sure, they got some stick a while back for something to do with doom aswell.

So far I've spent about 6 hours on just the first planet, trying to really find everything possible. I even found a crashed ship that was way better than my starter one, and now i'm having to farm all the resources to repair all the broken equipment in it.

All I am trying to do just now is get the best ship and tech possible before they start to release new content for it, I've read base building is the next addition :D.

Im the sort of person who walks around in GTA5 on foot sometimes just taking in the city, stopping at traffic lights, crossing with other NPC's, watching random events happen etc.

I have a feeling this will be the game for me :)

Agree. I do this as well.

How long would it take to walk around ONE planet in NMS then?

Day one patches are usual for most of us but there will be a number of people who either have limited usage caps or no internet at all and will be experiencing the game as it is on the disc.

My bro in law has a 360 for his two boys which has never been taken online so every game they play is as the disc comes.

Just reading through this also.
It does seem like they are either woefully inadequate at thinking, or they were playing pre-patch.
I always seemed to have an abudance of Plutonium, and zinc/titanium were everywhere...

Lack of Inventory space is definitely an issue, more so because of non-stackable items. Top tip - Don't buy a non stackable resource, when you don't have the slots for it... Credits go, and item is lost. :(
I'm sure things will improve as you play.

Its Polygon - anyone that uses them or IGN for reviews as critical opinion should be put on ignore. People posting their thoughts in this thread IMO have more credibility...

Ok thanks. I don't mind a bit of mining and resource collecting so think it sounds like I'll be ok with it. Just as long as it's not a mission finding all the stuff you need each time.

Yeah a lot of the complaints on reddit seem to be that once you visit a few planets, you realise that actually, they aren't really that different. Just a different colour palette, but the terrain is pretty similar and wildlife isn't too different. One guy on reddit posted a video of the creatures being identical on 3 different planets he visited in a row, just different names.

So I'm worried that in a few days it will get boring, especially as it only seems to be mining for resources then creating tech, rinse and repeat.

Right now that's fine when the novelty is there, but what happens when that wears off?

This is my concern also, doesn't help that I tend to get bored easily.

Hopefully I will be proved wrong and it doesn't end up getting 'old' so to speak.
