North korea places missile on pad

, how do you know it is being aimed at you only when it is on the way up?

)

because they don;t fly straight up they travel fairly horizontally once they're going. Russia and America spent decades figuring out how to calculate the target from the launch phase (the current/past methods have probably never even been released). it's not precise but its a "it's coming in our direction, it could hit us if it comes back down" kind of thing so better safe than sorry.

Is that true for something launched from North Korea flying towards Japan?

There aint a great deal of distance between the two...

yeah and there's hardly any love lost between the two either if Iran said it would be launching a missile over Israel for a "satellite" you can bet they'd respond similarly.

the missile might have been upgraded since the last estimate of "Alaska" and now mainland America could be target. so they won't risk it either.

There was a proposed conventional warhead for the trident system (basically just a solid lump of metal/concrete as it's speed gave it enough destructive force on re-entry) but it couldn't be deployed as there was no way to assure other nuclear powers is wasn't a strike at them in time for a launch without info leaks.

Every major power takes ICBM or IRBM launches very seriusly if there's even a chance it could come near them.

I was in Japan when they tried to do this last time, it was pretty mental over there. Some TV crew even tried to interview us getting off a subway train, my mate got on the news there. He just made something up, was quite amusing.

You say that, but i can't help but think that north korea want a war

I don't believe they want a war, they know they will get annihilated... and what use is a ravaged country to a dictator with delusions of grandeur?

it's simple showmanship... posturing designed to cause a stir and get 5 minutes of fame just so that world doesn't forget that North Korea is there. Sad.

well america would just bomb the hell out of their air bases, then take them out from above without needing to land. one the threat of war in america soil is dealt with - there'd be no rush.

the artillery emplacements pointing at Seoul are pretty well defended agaisnt air attack, and could kill thousands before any planes got near them.
