North Korea

Nuclear winter from what? one Bomb?

Nuclear winter is only probable from massive use of double digit megaton weapons, most modern arms are multiple-action kiloton range, at most the fear would be some radioactive fallout depending on the wind... which is why it wont happen as all the countries in the vicinity are allies.

Don't be silly, it was a figure of speech. I was simply stating that China would not accept the stupidity of NK and the after effects of the USA nuking NK. And by the way, if the USA was to nuke NK, i don't think for one min that it would just be one bomb and i don't think the Chinese would think that either. That's why i said the Chinese would take out the NK elite and the problem resolved.

I know what you mean - but nuclear winter is a theoretical global impact from large scale burn off following the nuking of large cities and areas with a lot of vegetation. (Most scenarios used by those anti-nuclear would require massive use of multi MT older dirtier nukes all entirely hitting city and other built up areas for maximum effect and don't take into account more modern nuclear warheads and that many would be used against military targets in more remote areas).

With modern nuclear weapons they'd probably only need to employ a dozen or so ~200KT devices and while the effects would be pretty nasty for NK largely the actual environmental impact on China or SK, etc. would be minimal - I don't think China would take well to nukes on their doorstep though as you said.

It just not happening, it opens up a massive can of worms with regards to Russia.

Suddenly it'd be ok to use Nuclear weapons on a small nation because you want to.

Yeah it would somewhat undermine the entire MAD doctrine as well. I think we'd see a joint Chinese-Russian-US occupation and carving up of NK before it came to nukes.

The use of Nukes would, yes of course. But the situation as it is at the moment to the Chinese............................is just a fly that needs to be dealt with. NK simply put is an old legacy that needs to be "put to sleep". In my mind they will never allow it to effect the future prosperity of China and if push come to threat, they will accept the threat and take out the NK elite.

Well I dunno about China, they haven't... done much over the last 20 years to know how they'll act. Obviously the option is between moving their large force southward and taking the country themselves or it really is to deal with the migration of refugees.

China would much rather North Korea shut up and continued its sad existence than act.

Absolutely true, they have done nothing. But China 20 years ago is not the China of today.............................................or how China want's to see itself on a global platform.
As i said, when push comes to shove money will talk and China will simply not let NK stand in the way of China's future. The USA know's that so can force China to act if it want's to.

Plus China ain't exactly averse to a bit of a land grab...

Happened to choose July 4th American Independence Day for the test as well which I'm sure wasn't by accident!

Getting to crunch point soon you'd think.

Wasn't there a poll the other day that showed in South Korea 80+% of people had faith in Obama's tactics in dealing with N.Korea but now only 17% have faith in Trumps tactics.

Well no doubt the South Korean people preferred Obama's approach, but unfortunately North Korea is continuously escalating the situation and threatening Japan and North America with nuclear armed ballistic missiles, so Trump really doesn't have a lot of choice here but to take a tough approach. North Korea didn't respond to Obama's approach, they're seemingly hell bent on acquiring the capabilities to strike America with nuclear weapons, that's not really acceptable if you're the President.

It's about time we put an end to this North Korean regime. Who's with me, brothers?

Grab your keyboards and get to the front.
