It is not ego in NK that is worrying it is the ego of the unstable man-child in the White House that is the main concern. He has the weapons and may use them to look big which could/probably will start a chain reaction. Kim cannot afford to do nothing if America attacked NK or else he will be removed.

That was China in C&C Generals I believe.
Kim is far more unstable than Trump. With Trump it's mostly a front.
Trump has not had anyone executed or assassinated for disagreeing with him. Kim has even killed his own family members.

Nobody will do anything until NK launches a missile which kills thousands of people. Then it will be too late.

I wouldn't call Kim unstable because of that. His uncles/generals were suspected of planning to take power shortly after he became leader, so he made an example of them. Though it is uncivilised and barbaric, he hasn't really been shown to be more unstable than his father and has just carried on doing what NK has always done; bark without biting.
Trump is somewhat stable but his 'front' is all a bit too heavy handed compared to previous leaders. He is too loud and aggressive with his threats and likely doesn't realise he is just forcing NK to react the same way to keep the same face. Previous leaders and army generals have realised the value to keeping the status quo with NK. Keeping NK looking like a threat, while not provoking escalation of action allows the US to keep a strong military presence there.
Trump fully understands what he is doing but as usual it has been carried out clumsily without the deft subtlety that military politics often requires.
I'm pretty sure he doesn't fully comprehend the nuances of international diplomacy. He's hyper aggressive in his recalcitrant rhetoric on the world stage. Compare him to Obama. Obama was a skillful orator who always projected a rational, calm and considered tone in his speeches. Trump however displays knee jerk reactions to just about everything he says, that hasn't been written for him by a speech writer. Trump is essentially the antithesis to Obama's reason. Our only saving grace is that there are people around him in the background who advise him and inform him and it's these people who hopefully keep Trump honest for want of a better word. The frightening thing is, what if he stops listening and decides to do something rash on the spur of the moment? It could get messy.

By know what he is doing, I mean trump fully knows he is coming out as overly aggressive and that is what he is aiming for. He does not understand what the effects of his actions are or what it might lead to but in his head, he thinks what he is doing is correct and it is the right thing.
Obviously it is not.
Trump is a bully, and is used to bullying people to get his own way
Kim is also a bully, though probably knows he cant bully the west like he can his own people
I'm not really sure what happens when you get two bullies on opposite sides? I guess either one of them will have to back down, they will keep threatening each other and nothing will happen or one will carry through with their threats to save face and keep their macho bully persona intact.
